Does Toronto's mayor have executive power?

A

Abeja de Almirante

Guest
Does the mayor of Toronto have executive power, or is her/his vote equal to the other counsellors? Since arriving in TO I've wondered about how our mayoral system works vs. for example New York city.

Abeja:

Weak mayor system; no serious executive powers; vote equivalent to councillors.

The province is pushing for more mayoral power and an executive committee in exchange for increased power being granted to the city.

Never believe anything you read on Wikipedia. It's completely unreliable. Anyone can post anything there - it needn't be true.

Thx. It is a strange medium really, as you'd expect some sort of auditing or verification before they accepted any information. I've read that they're hurting the classic encyclopedia firms, such as Britainnia, since no one wants to pay for anything today.

Don't put too much faith in the Britannica. A few years ago a twelve year old kid found three factual errors in it. At least online errors can be corrected easily.

Do they not teach people not to rely on encyclopaedias in school any more. We were never allowed to use them for papers in my day.

Actually, a study showed similar error rates in both Wikipedia and Britannica.

www.nature.com/nature/jou...8900a.html

Only eight serious errors, such as misinterpretations of important concepts, were detected in the pairs of articles reviewed, four from each encyclopaedia. But reviewers also found many factual errors, omissions or misleading statements: 162 and 123 in Wikipedia and Britannica, respectively.

I lost respect for the mayor when he refused to talk to guardian angel, Lou Hoffer.
