Does Faith Goldy et al have a point???

I wish that were so. While not technically a 'crime' in the legal sense, one can still get dragged before a Human Rights tribunal and be sanctioned - financially or otherwise - by the State for doing much less. In this regard, and likely only this regard, I tend to agree with the US position on freedom of speech.

Well, offending others is not an ethical crime, which persecuting people for offending others is.

That's the regressive left in action, as my hero Maajid Nawaz might say.

According to Wiki, there are a few . . .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_state

although it seems the parameters are a little elastic. According to the link some, like the UK, qualify since they have an official national religion.

Ok, so let's take a look at that list:

Argentina,[8]Costa Rica,[9]Denmark,[10]England,[11]Faroe Islands,[12]Greece,[13]Greenland,[14]Iceland,[15]Liechtenstein,[16]Malta,[17]Monaco,[18]Norway,[19]Samoa,[20]Tonga,[21]Tuvalu,[22]Vatican City,[23] and Zambia.[24]

In which of those countries are gays and women treated like second-class citizens (or worse)? Where are gays routinely executed for being gay? Where are women subservient to men?

Oh, no argument from me on your position. I was merely responding to the question whether such nations exist.

Although I have none, I get the concept of 'faith'; a belief in something that cannot be proven. So long as it is personal and not destructive, if someone needs faith to get themselves through the day, fill yer boots. What I don't get is organized religion. I can't wrap my head around the concept of a deity, creator and master of all known and unknown, dabbling in the minutiae of those who profess fealty to wear a certain type of hat.

I know, I gathered as much.....I was just asking those questions of perhaps @steveintoronto who brought this up in the first place. Or, really, just in the general interest of the discussion.

Precisely! One's personal beliefs are their own and they have every right to them, but the many interpretations of "holy" texts and the codification of certain beliefs has led to the imposition of people's beliefs onto others as well as to the necessary violence used to exert control over that imposition.

It's bad Joo Joo.

^Sympathy for the devil is what religious apologists like @Avenue have. Extremists and conservative Muslims don't care that you have their back....you're still an infidel.

Laura Loomer is another nutbar.
But I gonna be honest, I would slam the living daylights out of her. Yes I would!!

Here's one way to understand the concept of God--and it's quite sobering and an extrapolation of the "Flatland" concept:

A website posted by an evangelical who uses the bible as a source of definitive evidence, and who uses theories of physics (even the physicists acknowledge that most are just theories) as support for his views. Sorry, not swayed. He's not proposing God as just a "concept".

As a gay man, no religion scares me more than Islam. Islam is a homophobic religion. Where there is Sharia Law, gay people are tortured and killed.
I'm Christian. By our Book we'll also torture and kill you. But of course, like the majority of the billion plus Muslims in the world, we won't.

The fact that any adherents of a religion can use that religion's texts to justify inhumane behaviour gives the lie to the idea that they are harmless.

Religion is a crock of shit. If you really want to understand the universe and the meaning of life I highly recommend you read this book by Adrian Cooper:

https://www.amazon.ca/Ultimate-Reality-Universe-Destiny-Mankind/dp/0979910609

.pdf: http://avalonlibrary.net/ebooks/Adrian Cooper - Our Ultimate Reality.pdf
The website is back up and you can download the .pdf file of the book if you want.

Let me know what you think. You might not believe all (or any) of it though, but its an interesting read none the less

In the Islamic world If you are gay and act on it, you will be severely punished or killed under sharia Law. They have "sharia police" or "Morality police" Who enforce the barbaric stone age law.

Those billions of Muslims need to advocate for reforming Islam to fit with 21st century norms on Women and Gay rights.

SHARIA police lashed an Indonesian woman 100 times after she was accused of being in a private place with a man who was not her husband.
