Decking over Lakeshore @ Ontario Place

Hey guys, I recall seeing here a drawing from the 70's or 80's where Lakeshore Blvd was decked over connecting the CNE grounds with Ontario place.

Anybody have that? I'd love to see it again.

The plan was to deck over that short area east of Jameson where the Gardiner is in a trench.

I know what Metroman is talking about. I think it was more recent than the 70s or 80s. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the pic.

I think I may have seen it in a PDF, and that's why I can't find a copy of the photo alone. Now if I could only remember what the PDF was related to, I might find the photo.

Councillor David Miller was a big advocate of decking over the Gardiner in the Jameson area. It would be a fantastic project for linking Parkdale with the Lakeshore, but it seems to have fallen off the radar screen. There are also provisions in the Front Street Extension project for another "land bridge" east of the Ex.

There have been several proposals to deck over Lakeshore, the most recent was the 2008 Olympic Bid Plan which would have created a new events plaza. I have a copy of the bid books and contains a picture of it.

My other advice is to visit the CNE archives which should have photos and renderings on file.

That area around Jameson was a residential area that extended down to the lake. It was removed when the Gardiner was built.

That was when Parkdale was considered an affluent neighbourhood, like Rosedale.
