"Curtains close on Poor Alex"
Don't think I've seen this mentioned anywhere yet...
The August edition of the Annex Gleaner (not online, apparently) reports that the Poor Alex Theatre has closed, and has been sold to Graziano Marchese, owner of Dooney's. Marchese intends to run the venue as a theatre, and is planning to add a jazz bar and a kitchen on the second floor. The Poor Alex staff are currently searching for a new location "reasonably close to the Annex", and will keep the name. High property taxes and rising debt are cited by management as reasons for the sale.
