Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Exactly. And are people forgetting the volume of space these stops would occupy if they were to be built as grade-separated stations? They'd be 100 metres across and with placement of escalators/mezzanines at the ends could even exceed those platform lengths. Strategically positioned stops at the near- or far-sides of the intersections in question could cut down a lot of the distance between the major stops and the midblocks. Bemersyde/Wincott is a prime example of this. The Kipling stop could be positioned on the near side, hence it'd only a few hundred metres away from Wincott. If only we'd strive for better, we can get better.
I am not sure if the Councillors in the area have expressed an opinion on this LRT line, but the Liberal MPP has a strong preference for underground. This really seems like it will be a repeat of the Scarborough situation. The planners will ignore the majority and plan for an on-street LRT when that is not what most want. The Liberal MPP desire to have everything underground will rule the day and the planners will not suggest elevated, just go along with the political views.

Where are you guys getting these details on the project?

It looks like there are two versions of the survey. I went back and tried it again, to revisit the renderings, and they weren't there.
Did you find the one with renderings of each major intersection, indicating the preferred option for each one is at grade?

No - not me. Mine had very vauge 11 questions. I tried all the links below, and not one showed me each intersection, or any hint that they are all at-grade.

If you can recreate the more detailed one, can you post a direct link.

It's strange. If I access the link from my computer I get the vague 9 page version. If I go to the same URL on my phone, I get the one that includes the renderings and basic analysis.

Give me one example of when the majority would not prefer underground?

Therefore because of limited finances planners must ignore that request unless it simply won't work above ground.

Thanks Raul,
3 of the first 4 "not preferred" are actually my preferred (Royal York should be elevated, north side too) - and they look quite nice (although North side Islington could likely be built with much less disruption.

Are you sure some vandal didn't switch the signs at the info session :)

My nitpicks on the renderings would be a) they don't accurately depict traffic conditions - there are more cars on Eglinton on a Sunday morning, let alone peak b) Similar to the rest of Crosstown, the at-grade stations are minimalist and provide a minimum of protection from the elements c) the bus stops are all near side

- Paul

These are for illustrative purposes. This isn’t supposed to be indicative of shelter design.
