Wasn't sure if the bridges were too low at the Allen and why the detour off the 401 at Dufferin St. The photo show it.

Forming is underway for the 2nd entrance that is part of the new Salvation Army Church that will replace to old one. The old one was removed to allow access to the tunnel and the Yonge Station.

From link.
Looks like they do not want to bump over the traffic island when they exit the off ramp from eastbound 401 to Victoria Park Avenue. Likely they usually make right turns from the opposite lanes to get a wide turning radius. Hence the use of police to block the opposite lanes when they make turns.

Why are they backtracking on 401?

They are already making a similar turn further ahead at Kennedy. Also, the on ramp at Kennedy they are taking will be tighter than an exit ramp.
The cops will let them overlap over the breakdown lane. They'll probably have tow trucks on standby, just in case.

Not sure I understand -- they're making only left turns because it's a lot easier to make than a right turn with a median in the way (even from the opposite lane). The radius of the ramp itself is nowhere near as tight as the turn.

I haven’t walked the route, but I bet there are known showstoppers - low hanging signals, wires, etc - that have been scouted out. The route probably makes perfect see once all these have ben inventoried.

There’s this bridge on Youtube.....
