Condo Couches

I just bought some custom furniture from UCChair. The guy is really a nice guy, if a little repetitive when he talks and has pretty good prices for the quality of work he produces and the wood he uses. Generally he uses maple on the outside and oak for some supports depending on the grain you might want.

Now... I know you asked about couches but I thought I'd show you some examples of what we're doing to increase storage to give you an idea of what you might be able to do as well...

His website.. www.uchair.ca

Coffee table (this model but with a fold-top lid instead.

There's also www.furnituretoronto.com for storage ottomans

I found this bench

And of course Ikea has storage sofas

That couch with the storage looks cool. When I was getting my couch for my condo, I got on at the Chesterfield Shop. They had a good deal on a condo-sized 3 seater sofa-bed. It's 74 inches wide, so much narrowed than a regular house-sized couch, but it has a nice mattress (double size) to sleep 2 guests. I find that's a useful feature to have in condos, if you expect to have overnight guests.

That bed is great! We found something similar from JLM - pretty much the same idea, the bed design is a bit different.

It's funny you mention that - we were/are planning on getting our couch from the Chesterfield shop as well ... the only issue is it lacks storage of any kind.

We found this coach from the Urban Brick:

It's quite amazing ... storage as indicated in the picture ... moreover, the whole bottom part (excluding the sectional) pulls out to make something that resembles a bed. It doesn't compare to a sofa bed but it's very interesting.

The only thing we didn't like was the material used ... it's pretty comfortable but we're not set on the tweed like feeling you get. Also, it's manufactured in China (which is common nowadays) so there's not much to do about that.

I have a small one bedroom unit that I just finished furnishing. I had done a lot of browsing for sofas and at one point was considering something very similar to the one you posted in the start of the thread. l realized at some point in the search that I really wanted a decent sofa bed for occasional guests so I ultimately decided on a (double) sofa bed with storage in the ottoman (photo below). I got it at The Chesterfield Shop and am really happy with it. I thought they had great service and selection and everything is made in Canada. I thought Casalife was pretty good as well in terms of selection.

Didn't you find the sofa couch was a little less comfortable then the couch without the sofa in it ? That's the general conclusion we reached, it's relatively minor in the end but still. leaning toward no sofa coach and a blow up mattress < they're pretty comfortable as far as beds go actually!

I bought an awesome couch at Style Garage on Queen & Shaw. I don't think they make couches with storage, though.

If you're looking for something less expensive, there's a temporary EQ3 outlet store (EQ3 Final Call) at King & Brant, where Hide House used to be. They're selling couches, loveseats, sectionals, armchairs, and all kinds of furniture at a discount for the next couple of months. There are some really good deals there.

I do find sofa beds less comfortable than just sofa/couch.

I have a sofa/couch and the back cushions are attached by zippers, hence removal. So if i have company over, I can take them off and the sofa/couch is 2.5 ft wide, almost as wide as a twin bed ... good enough for temp use.

PS - i have a friend in the design field who may have connections to good discounts on some of the following.

As soon as I read your comment I did recall that the sofa beds felt firmer than those without when I first checked them out in the showroom. I mentioned it to the salesperson and they did acknowledge that the sofa bed cushions do tend to be firmer, but soften up over time. The cushions on mine have softened up and are quite comfortable, but I can't really say if they're now the equivalent of a sofa without the built in bed. The inflatable mattress is a good option as well for occasional guests, I slept on an AeroBed mattress for an entire year at one point and found it quite comfortable.
