Ah that's what's happening. I pass going to work everyday and saw the tarps covering the signs, but there were still guests and staff coming and going. I feel for the guests, though. The usual practice for these places is to not announce the hotel is going through renovations and just leave it as surprise for the guests to find out when they show-up. It usually gets pretty noisy and messy as they try to do renos very quickly.

I'm sure Steve's budget hotels wont suffer as much as all the 4 and 5 star hotels in the city. His Residence inn downtown is Toronto's only extended stay hotel downtown, its always booked, i had friends that stayed there its like having a full size condo in the city. Chicago's downtown has five extended stay hotels, Toronto could use more now that Element hotel has been cancelled.

Thank goodness the name of this place will change, so it won't sound like something run by the Japanese army in WW2.
