Change To Canadian Policy - Scary or No?

I am from the UK, and we don't get cheques returned once they are cashed, never have, and in 20 years of writing the things, I can't say I ever had an issue where I actually needed to see one, I do object to the banks scanning them and making you pay to view them online, thats just a cash grab.

I still think its hilarious that Canadian banks charge you for cheque books, they are charging you to access your own money - WTF ?

Our banking industry is not very competitive, due to foreign ownership restrictions. As far as banks charging for chequebooks, that is not necessarily the case. My bank doesn't charge a red cent for any of the services I normally use, including chequebooks. I have to pay for things like money orders or wire transfers, but frankly, I never have needed to use one. It also has about 2 million customers, so it has about 10% of the market.

reganrants,

Not to stray off topic, but was this TD Insurance in Etobicoke?
As a former employee there I have encountered the exact same debacle you described...
