Given the current pandemic I thought it would be prudent to have a thread dedicated to the CNE and related issues pertaining to the pandemic.

Not sure if it will happen or in what form but here's to hoping.

I don't think it's happening this year, by the looks of it.

Caribana has been cancelled, and that's only a couple weeks before.

New Brunswick have banned all sporting events and concerts til the end of the year, and they have a much better hold on this plague than Ontario.

I doubt it...the CNE is a science experiment during the best of non-plague years.

True. It's also why I doubt they will do the Queens Plate this year.

I thought the Queen's Plate was already cancelled, ne c'est pas?

That reminds me....I'm guessing casinos are going to be amongst the last things to open again. :(

The Queens Plate was postponed but not canceled. Having worked security there last year I can safely say it won't be run this year. The event attracts so many people that they wouldn't have 2 feet of space between them let alone 2 metres.

I'm worried about Niagara Falls this summer. Without the casinos and Niagara Parks attractions the city will be dead this summer.

They will spend more money policing Niagara Parkway than they will have coming in.

An empty Niagar Falls? I'm there already!

Though, I wouldn't mind the casinos, dammit. I have blackjack tables to swindle....or lose money trying. :D

This going to be a major hit for all of the major stakes races of they are cancelled outright. They are all predicated on horses of a certain age, and you are only 3 or whatever years old once. As well, training is timed to maximize peak performance around a certain date. For the high-value stables, potentially millions are at stake (no pun intended). I'm less concerned for the well being of gazillionaires and more about the fate of the many horses who aren't able to return their owners' investments.

Let's face it - 2020 is just cancelled outright. Will we even have a Christmas??

Wtf you talking about, cancelled?! I'm going camping so hard on Canada Day week and I'm eating everything once restaurants are open.
Cancelled, my eye.

April is cancelled. July is fire. Trust.

That is precisely the point. If they reopen provincial parks before Canada Day people will congregate en masse. They will have large parties in the parks on Canada Day and Victoria Day.

The IndyCar race is scheduled before both the CNE and Caribbean Carnival parade, and from what I can see has not yet been officially cancelled, but I doubt there's any realistic hope of it happening in 2020. They have to start setting up the grandstands, barriers, etc., about a month ahead of time, and the bans on international travel and spectator events would have to be lifted.
Maybe they're afraid it won't return? They've been routinely renewing the contract for it in three year increments, and I think 2020 is the last year of the existing one. With the possibility of a subway station and whatever other construction may be involved in a new grand scheme for Exhibition/Ontario Place, and the companies they need to sponsor the race and the teams probably not having the money for it anymore, its time may be coming to an end.
