Canadian airline industry (general discussion)

I'm not sure a video which takes over 20 minutes to lay out some facts is great!

More key than economies of scale (which would imply that fares from Buffalo would be higher than Toronto) is that airports - especially capital costs - are subsidized by government

Capital costs are often heavily subsidized. There's umpteen federal programs for funding airports en masse. As well as state and municipal funding.

LOL.

An example of an area where Canada is the free market and the US is the state funded. Private airports that receive government funding/support.

I'm not saying which system is the system, and our government (any government) is tasked with juggling multiple sometimes conflicting goals at once.

- we all want lower airfare, but air travel is environmentally damaging and most of us would want to mitigate that damage somehow
- Supporting the aviation industry is also at odds with other modes of transport, both directly and indirectly (since funds are limited, money spend on aviation means less money spent elsewhere) such as passenger rail, or roads.
