cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs.

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

Scarborough already has them. Try sitting in the last car of an SRT train at 11 pm and you'll feel like sitting in a massive cabinentaxi car all by yourself.

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

I've never been in an SRT car by myself. I've also never had a Sheppard subway car to myself, even at 1am. I have had a Spadina line car to myself...along with a buffer of three additional empty cars.

"happens all the time"

Not to me.

All these photos are clearly photoshopped...

nah i just ask everyone to stand behind me for the shot.

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

Did you manage to sneak into the McCowan Yards for a pic like that?

Or did you merely take that photo at McCowan Station? :p

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

Did it fill you with the urge to sing out loud in what is otherwise a public place?

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

Not to me.

There is a 95% chance that you will use the transit system when 95% of people use the transit system.

In short, you need to be outside the standard usage patterns to experience exceptions.

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

^ Trust me, my pattern of transit usage could hardly be more atypical.

I'm always surprised by the number of people using the Sheppard subway to go westbound at 1am on a Sunday.

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

wow. this is pretty funny looking I find it kind of hard to believe that the government didn't force this technology on scarborough instead!

apparentley this was the only competitor to the people mover in detroit, and this system's future was riding on that, it might have proved more practical by the way detroit set up its system so there'd be two directions of travel

Re: cabinentaxi! The solution to Scarborough's transit needs

Any stats on the actual throughput that system supported?

It actually looks like it would work fairly well compared to car-oriented development. You could also have multiple routes between any two stations so that if there is a breakdown on any part of the system it wouldn't gring the whole operation to a halt. Maybe an option in more suburban locations...
