Bike Racks on TTC buses

Bike Racks Approved

TTC Commissioners today rejected TTC report for not proceeding with the bike rack program.

As of today, *ALL* TTC buses will have bike racks on them starting with the Orion VII

To put racks on the buses will be done over the next
3 years or less.

Great news even if TTC could use the money else where.

Goodie! I’m now going to be much more likely to buy a bike next year if the racks come soon. The next major street has a route with bike racks, I don't see them often with bikes, with more routes, the more people will use them.

That's great to hear! And good to see what is basically a social policy trumping sheer TTC penny-pinching. Things should certainly be expected to change once users know that the presence of racks could be reliably counted on.

Now... how about an investment in bike parking at rapid transit stations?

I am speechless. I am without speech.

Has good sense finally made its way to the inner depths of the TTC? Bike racks. How very progressive. How very un-TTC like.

What's next? Smart cards?

^Hey! Don't get ahead of yourself.

Bike racks on buses work great in Ottawa - and are found only on specific routes. If the TTC is putting them on all routes, that is fantastic.

Next up, finishing the bike paths.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of.
If you ride a bike, ride it.
If you take the bus, take the bus.

Those damn lefties sure know how to foolishly spend money.

Is there more to your lines of arguments than to label everything "lefties", "pinko", etc?

A CAR with a TRUNK? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of! If you want to carry something, just carry it! If you want to drive somewhere, just drive! Why on earth would you want to travel somewhere at the same time as carrying your possessions?

Ugh. Troll alert.

Anyhoo.
I wonder if any unfortunate biker has ever forgotten his bike on the front of the bus, or if the bus driver has ever driven away before the biker could get it. It must be easy to forget about the bike rack, especially when the driver is at the end of an 8 hour shift.

Suicidal, yes, that's a good point. I could see myself forgetting my bike on the bus. Totally.

Recently in LA, where of all places many buses had bike racks. Oddly, I believe I actually saw more bikes stuck on the front of buses than I saw being cycled around town.

Analysis from flatland. Very one-dimensional.

Bike racks will be inside of the new LRT's.

Same goes for the New Subway Trains

bike racks are always welcome, because they expand the service area of one bus stop.

@the "waste of money" person: bikes are, to most people, a faster alternative to walking (NOT a slower alternative to cars). And (most) people don't really walk very long distances, so they won't bike them either (I walked 8 km to my house yesterday, wasn't fun)
