Since I will be occupied with Doors Open, I bring you yet another instalment of my popular series, Better Know a Car Line.
Today we ride the 511 Bathurst. The fightin’ 511th!
The Bathurst Car has an interesting history. The current route is a consolidation of the Bathurst and Fort lines. The Bathurst Car ran to downtown via Adelaide from St. Clair and Vaughan Road, the Fort Car ran to the Exhibition. In 1966, the new Bathurst car was rerouted and cut to run only between Bathurst Station and the Exhibition, and was, until Spadina was restored, the only north-south car line after the 1960s cutbacks.
We start our trip at Bathurst Station.
Bathurst is kilometre for kilometre, the most residental of all car lines.
What the f**k is this gastly project between Dundas and Queen? The townhomes of French Quarter?
Wolseley Loop, once the main terminus for Fort cars, is still used for short turns of 501, 504 and 511 cars.
Behind the King Sol building at Queen and Bathurst, is this decrepit alley.
Fleet loop is interesting for having a heritage lighthouse in the middle. Fleet Street, which hosts the 509 and 511, will have a ROW. No NIMBYs or Vaughan morons here, obviously.
We enter the Exhibtion grounds before our return northwards.
The celebrated Bank of Hobo at Queen and Bathurst.
At the corner of two car lines, is a parking lot and a McDonald's with a drive through. I've decided that even with Toronto Western Hospital there, this corner is dead to me. Even the people at that car line that's dead to me were able to prevent a McDonald's drive through from being built. I'm NOT lovin' it, that's for sure.
Ed might be honest, but he's no fountain of Truth!
Let's put the 511 up on the big board!
