Art Deco show sets record attendance for ROM

205,000 visitors pass through the turnstiles! That's good news for the ROM! Up next is Egyptian Masterpieces on loan from the British Museum.

Good news.

Although I was a little disappointed in the exhibit.

It was fantastic. So many beautiful and important things. No wonder people flocked to it. I'm going to drag my friends to see it at the Legion of Honour when I'm in San Francisco next month.

Definitely good news for the ROM. I went early on the second last day - by the time we left, the lineup to buy tickets stretched almost up to Bloor Street. It was a little too packed inside to really enjoy the exhibit, but that's my own fault for waiting until the last minute to attend.

I can't wait for the ROM to get a proper exhibit space for these travelling shows - the Exhibit Hall used for the Deco show sucked.

Amen to that. It was horrible for the Haute Couture show they had last winter too.

Definitely a successful exhibition... created a lot of buzz... many of my chums were talking about it. A testament to the wonder of the art deco era.

I enjoyed this exhibit and it was super-packed when I was there...

I went to the member's preview. There was a lecture given by one of the curators in the theatre downstairs first. Then we swarmed upstairs into the exhibit area, like a band of hungry orcs. It was a bit of a feeding frenzy. I shan't do it that way again....

I was impressed by the wide range of objects, especially the textiles and beautifully constructed dresses. As a collector of ceramics I was a bit disappointed though. There were several examples of the work of English deco ceramist Clarice Cliff, for instance, and they weren't particularly distinguished. But overall it was the best show I saw last year.
