I thought I might start a thread looking at what's under Toronto. There's been a lot of scholarly types in white hard hats digging here in The Distillery District lately, in advance of the development necessary for the upcoming Pan Am Games
Whenever I see archeologists digging in Toronto I try to get pictures. They're generally uncooperative. They fear bloggers will bring treasure hunters...
This is the archeological dig is on the south east corner of Front Street East and Trinity St just north of The Distillery gates at 55 Mill St .
I was there on the morning that the backhoe arrived to cover up the dig zone, May 8th 2011
This is a picture I found in the archives of a building across the street in 1912 - this is the NW corner of Front and Trinity
This structure was photographed back in 1912 because it was condemned to be demolished - look at the pre fab concrete water mains ready to be buried... they are underground now too, somewhere in this area
Does anyone know anything more about this dig? Or do you have any pictures of other archeological digs in Toronto?
