A relatively new Cambridge proposal for downtown Galt.
The site is currently home to a dilapidated bowling alley and is situated right next to the Ainslie St bus terminal and future end of the Cambridge LRT line.
Site in question
The developer wants to build two towers, one 15s and one 20s.
Hard to get a great idea from the renders but I think it looks decent. I really hope this gets approved as is, there's basically nothing here and it's next to the future LRT and bus terminus theres absolutely no reason for there not to be this height here, however I do suspect it will face significant opposition.
From the SE corner of the site, looking NW. Rafters from the old bowling alley building are still on-site, demolition happened in September/ October 2023:
Looking NE across Ainslie St S at the site from the NW corner of the Ainslie St/ Bruce St intersection. Ainslie St Terminal can be seen to the left of the site:
Also, some stairs I never knew existed. Located at the back of the site, towards Wellington. They don't go anywhere and will definitely get taken out, but I still thought it was neat. The masonry looks pretty old too:
This one was put into receivership about a month ago, and nobody seemed to notice, so I'll make a note of it here for the history books. This also had a revision submitted prior to being placed into receivership, which saw the tower heights increase from 15 & 20 storeys to 18 & 21 storeys. The podium remains 5 storeys with 1 level of underground parking. Unit count increased from 392 to 399. This was necessitated by the Region requiring additional lands for rapid transit in the area.
The site is now for sale for $8.35M (almost $21,000 per proposed unit). Those pushing the receivership are looking to recoup approx. $6M in debts associated with the project.

Should be noted that this first came before Council in 2020, and stalled prior to getting full Council approval. Since then, the new Council (2022) has become notably less favourable to anything denser than a townhouse. This was already a nice proposal, and I feel the revisions have only contributed further to that. Also shows that the developer was willing to play ball with the City and Region to make it happen. I really hope it sells and gets built as-proposed, but I fear a new owner will come in and continue to propose it as-is, Council will knock it down, and the owner will be forced to VE the heck out of it for it to remain viable.
