First indications of future potential redevelopment of the Portland Centre site, 517 Wellington Street West / 510 Front Street West. The site includes the historic Copp Clark & Co building on the north portion of the property, through to the Toyota on Front building on the Front Street side.

First photo is of the Copp Clark &Co building (which from my understanding is a designated structure, but would need to be confirmed). Second photo is from Front Street, with south portion of the parking lot shown, followed by several photos of the soil sampling drilling rig in action.

If I'm understanding the scope of the parcel correctly that's another big chunk of land and an opportunity for a cool project to bookend and play off of The Well. Interesting news!

16 stories. Guess they're trying to match the form of The Well?
 
half a million square feet of new construction office is nothing to sneeze at, especially in only 16 floors. Looking forward to seeing this.
 
This will be similar in scale to the Globe and Mail Centre. (That one is 17 storeys and also around 500,000 sq ft of office.) Definitely nothing to sneeze at.
 
Some interesting concepts present here. I like the grid arrangements on the south facing profile, along with the overhang on the north end. Material used on the orange sections will be important though.

But overall, this is a key piece of infill that contributes a significant amount of more office space to the area. Which in turn will help benefit nearby retail venues such as the Well in the future.
 
I love it. The density is appropriate, the massing looks great, the splashes of colour are fun (and much needed) and the embellishments look thoughtful, not tacky.

But for all the thought that's gone into this, is an undifferentiated wall of glass along almost the entire street level really the best decision? For all the foot traffic this development will bring, I'm not sure how much it'll have to offer the pedestrian, especially along Front.
 
Very beautiful. We need more 'mid sized' office buildings like this that are not towers. The same goes for condo/ apartment buildings that are mid rises. I agree that the glass frontage along Front could be a bit more playful but overall I really like this proposal. I don't believe I've ever walked along this stretch ever...maybe I will in the future. As it stands now this is a quite desolate stretch and has always been rather forgotten it seems.

Yeah pretty bleak, and used by many just to get across to Spadina and further downtown
