    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

My bank is reliable in other matters, but in this matter all they say is that the transaction went through and there is nothing they can do from their end. The fault is Presto's and they've been giving me the runaround; every rep I've talked to has a different story to tell me. When the TTC...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

When that happens I'll ride my bike and by the middle of summer 2018 I'll have enough money for a second-hand car. Also, I can use cabs. I realize that Presto was more or less forced on the TTC but if Presto is my only payment option then I can get by without the TTC.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I did wait 24 hours and I did tap on after adding the funds. My card is registered. The idea of having a card that I can add funds to online and in the amount that I want is a great idea, but I don't like having money stolen from me. Presto has been no help, my bank has been no help. I won't...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I tried to add $45 to my Presto account and the funds didn't show up. Presto is claiming that I tried to add the funds twice (am I out $90???) and their only recommendation is to try to add even more funds. These idiots can't even process a fucking online payment and they expect the public to...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It looks great! It also looks strange somehow...just not Bombardier's style...still, what the hell! Two thumbs up!

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I agree that there are a fair number of obtuse, short-sighted politicians running this city (e.g. our mayor and Councillor Ford: The Next Generation) but Bombardier knows that it has friends at the provincial and federal levels which is where the real money for public transit infrastructure...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I suspect that Bombardier knows that this is a public relations exercise; the people running Bombardier may be cheap (Mexican labour), incompetent, and heedless of their contractual obligations, but I don't think they're stupid. At the end of the day the TTC will buy from Bombardier and...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Hm, so basically you're neutral on the issue of Bombardier. ;) Interesting about Commerce Court, I didn't know that. While we're waiting for the next Flexity here's an interesting article on blimps...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It'll be interesting to see who responds to the RFI and how they handle the unique characteristics of the Toronto streetcar network. In the end, it might be cheaper to stick with Bombardier and hope that they get their act together at some point.

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

I was at Broadview yesterday and they've started the installation of new fare gates there as well. It seems to me that someone started pushing for faster installation. Over the last few weeks I've noticed Spadina, Bloor/Yonge and Broadview. The gates at Bay were a mess today: one had both...

LMAO! Nice one, W.K., nice one! :D Now that's enforcement! None of this writing them up a citation nonsense!

Yeah, that is a nice building (saw the pic in Wikipedia). I love the vertical lines and the tapering at the top. It gives the building a subtle "wedding cake" look without going all Stalinesque like the Palace of Culture in Warsaw. Dunno, I'm not an architect but I like the Wells Fargo Center...

I like to do what I can to jazz up the forum. ;) Speaking of jazz, I'd really like to see a nice art deco tower break up the monotony of the Toronto skyline, something like the Chrysler Building in NYC.

Well perhaps we can track down the lady who made that comment and check her academic credentials and see if they meet our stringent standards. Is she entitled to make a comment about the Toronto skyline? Of course any person who makes a comment about the quality of country music must have at...

Based on what I've read the percentage of foreign ownership in condos varies from year to year but this article is interesting: http://business.financialpost.com/personal-finance/mortgages-real-estate/foreign-buyers-snapping-up-newer-condos-over-older-ones-in-toronto-vancouver-cmhc

I remembered what she said because I think the same thing. As a city we seem obsessed with building higher and higher so that we can get a "supertall" tower just like the big kids. A little more variety in shape and colour would do a lot to relieve the monotony of our skyline, especially as seen...

I was sitting at a picnic table on Algonquin Island this summer and a couple of women were walking behind me, tourists I believe. One of the women commented on the "lovely view" of the Toronto skyline; look at all the buildings, she said. Her companion just blurted out, "They all look the same!"...

Hear, hear! Well put and I second this comment!

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

No, Bombardier took the risk and Toronto lost out big time. Socialize the risk and privatize the profit is the name of the game.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Very disappointing but not entirely unexpected. We're in for a penny in for a pound with the Flexity order so we must as well just hope for the best. Maybe Bombardier can ramp up their second Thunder Bay line and get their "global supply problems" ironed out. I always get the impression that...
