    Rob Ford's Toronto

He's just a chip off the old Etobicoke Blues... Now, come to think of it, that would have been appropriate song-title for this thread... Bwaaaah! My sentiments exactly - once I picked my jaw up off the floor after hearing his statement... Would we could purge him!!

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Agree - don't know if he's implying there's *that* kind of connection there. Seems like not something he'd wisely tweet unless he has some proof, so may not be what is intended?

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Just from hits in a Google search on 'mid sellin' - seems like a reference to Doug's pot-dealing?

A big "Yeah, that!" to both observations... oof.

A bit of grim reality - and stark contrast to that "shit happens" response, eh? Jeez.

Ba dum-chhhhh!! So RoFo/DoFo could have expanded their appeal to some of their bedrock support demographic by "starting the gravy train", instead of stopping it per camping slogans. Sweet.

Because 'Subways subways subways' was the only transit plan in Rob Ford's Toronto... (Not that I have anything against subways! But what a relief to know that real ideas for the relief of congestion may actually be explored now!)

^Pretty much, I'd say. Doug didn't have all the same baggage, of course...but also didn't have enough of the same whatever-it-was-that-attracted-some-FOLKS-to-Rob. Interesting that not all of that transferred either. Thank heavens for small mercies :D

Wikipedia puts it 'in the abdominal cavity', fwiw: "retroperitoneal space The retroperitoneal space (retroperitoneum) is the anatomical space (sometimes a potential space) in the abdominal cavity behind (retro) the peritoneum. It has no specific delineating anatomical structures. Organs are...

Actually, I've found my l'il corner of America to be on a par - or actually more educated/active, politically - than, say...Toronto ;D Partisan politics aside (comic is clever but similar ones can and have been done when the Dems win, of course. Indies like me inevitably chuckle - and shiver...

Good 'food for thought' here - thanks. Good point, that to remain a democracy, there needs to be citizen involvement - a government policing itself, for example, makes no sense. And if an independent authority is established to 'watchdog' government, how to keep them independent...or...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Seems as though he's held a few cabinet posts under Mike Harris and Ernie Eves. Must not have 'made waves'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Wilson_(Canadian_politician)

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Surely a process for bringing a complaint that would trigger an investigation (independence needing to be safeguarded, granted) without having legal fees and court wait-time to contend with, would make better sense...and provide for more equal access? Too many citizens afraid of the court...

Spot on, IMO. Really, really good read. Thanks for the link! Ha! (Yoicks!) ETA: I guess it took a Mayor who was just that brazen and had no allegiance to the code of conduct we all expected would pertain by virtue of office and the voters' trust, to make it clear why enforcement of...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Agree. Was I the only one shocked to find out the regulations governing city government have no teeth at all, unless private citizens bring suit?!

Yes, indeed! Though I'd settle for item #1...

Wow! Oshawa must have changed since I lived there. Granted, we (the demographic) *looked* FN-ish even then...but while I was there we elected the first Liberal in 47 years (Ivan Grose) to Ottawa. He was still in when I left and I haven't kept up...but I just figured it would swing back NDP...
