This conversation seems to be going nowhere...can we move on to something else?

    Hudson's Bay Company

Not necessarily; Target still had many stores planned and under construction in Canada up until they pulled the plug.

    Toronto Sherway Gardens Expansion | ?m | 2s | Cadillac Fairview | DIALOG

Rumors started to fly about HBC wanting to either sell off its Saks division and/or close its Saks stores in Canada due to their drastic under-performance. Wonder what would happen under such a scenario to malls like Sherway which would suddenly find themselves with massive anchor space.

Not sure what the big issue is regarding Russian business people purchasing property; a Saudi prince owned the Royal York for years and nobody complained. Believe it or not, not everybody in Russia knows Putin. As Canadians, don't we get upset with the "Do you know Joe from Canada" questions...

Also heard Simons is under-performing as well. Both Holts and Simons at Square One suffer from a total lack of service IMO! Its not uncommon to walk through either of these stores and be totally disregarded by the staff who seem more preoccupied with pursuing small talk with each other than...

    Nordstrom

Interesting; at least Nordstrom isn't messing around when it comes to performance expectations. We need more of that, especially at some HBC stores and Holt Renfrew. HR's store at Square One has been under-performing since opening last summer. Would be interesting to know what steps have been...

    Toronto Eaton Centre

Saw the same thing in their Square One location, which also closed. I can't imagine that having employees stand around starring at customers walking by boded well for business.

This isn't a political forum; keep your smart ass comments about Trump to yourself.

Frankly, I'm really tired of this belittling of Square One. I don't understand it, other than to submit that its simply a form of veiled racism due to the fact that the clientele is largely non-white. It may come as a surprise to many, but Asians and Middle Easterners have money too and are...

This "I know something you don't know" stuff on these forums is really annoying.

Saks Fifth Avenue Flagship (Queen & Yonge)

Does anybody happen to know the exact configuration of the Queen Street store (e.g how many floors and between what sections of the larger Bay store)?

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Apple is a company notorious for secrecy regarding its business, including the location of future stores. Therefore, anybody proposing to have "inside" knowledge about where a store may open is talking out of their ass, plain and simple!

    Toronto Sherway Gardens Expansion | ?m | 2s | Cadillac Fairview | DIALOG

From what I've heard and observed, you're probably right. Word on the street is the mall's traffic has plateaued in recent years and the new wing has done little to stem the hemorrhaging of customers to nearby Square One. The newly opened De Beers store seems to be a bust and it escapes me why...

Post your pictures of Toronto here!

Another decent video showcasing Toronto's ever-evolving skyline.

Uniglo is almost assuredly going to open at Square One, especially now that Yorkdale is confirmed (the two malls are both owned by the same landlord). Plus with Mississauga's large Asian population, the demographics certainly warrant a store there.

No way it can be Saks, unless they've decided to bail on their plans for Sherway (which wouldn't be a bad idea considering that mall's dismal performance of late). Bloomingdales and Macy's have both made it clear they're not coming to Canada. I am more interested to know if/when Walmart is...

Thanks for not breaking precedent with this forum's glass half-empty, I hate my life attitude espoused by the arm chair critics whose arm chair I suspect probably belongs to their parents! How did all of the world's most cranky bloggers all manage to find their way to Toronto???

Saks Fifth Avenue Flagship (Queen & Yonge)

American deja-vu??? In terms of their Canadian strategy, Saks seems to be repeating the same mistakes that got them into trouble in the States; opening too many stores, many in markets that were either over-saturated or couldn't support luxury retail. Toronto certainly is a wealthy city but...

    Square One Shopping Centre

I know we've all been down this road before but I'll say it again, Wal-Mart needs to go before Square One will be taken seriously by tenants like those. Perhaps the freeing up of land around the mall is part of a strategy to re-locate Wally's to a stand alone spot outside the shopping centre...

Marks is generally not a mall-formatted type of store. However, given the amount of new space Square One has to fill now, I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility.
