GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Metrolinx has far higher priorities than buying more trains...…….building parking garages comes to mind.

    Regional Governance Review

Certain cities/towns should certainly be amalgamated and these tiny boundaries seem like nothing more than political make-work projects. Few people understand, much less care, about what services are provided by the cities/towns and which by the counties. People also look to things like transit...

    Regional Governance Review

Some of these potential amalgamations make prefedt sense but you can't help wondering that if in 60 years Sudbury, London, Toronto, and Ottawa are going to be the only ones left standing.

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

If you don`t want to try Hydrail or even battery trains then fine, don`t do it. That said please don`t be under any illusions that RER will be complete by 2025 or you are going to be sadly disappointed. Metrolinx still can`t even figure out height platforms in 5 years so I don`t know why you...

Double Decker Buses in Ontario - Safety?

They don`t even know what caused the crash so let`s not jump to any conclusions. I`ve ridden the DDs in Victoria and loved it and would not hesitate to take them again.

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

In regards to France and Germany still expanding their catenary network you are quite correct and yes that is noteworthy when Hydrail is being increasingly seen as a viable alternative. The analogy with Toronto however is limited. These are countries that already have huge catenary systems...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

You are absolutely right, Toronto does need catenary right now but the problem is that is not going to happen. The deadline for catenary electrification is 2025 and it will not be met. Lets be serious, after years of debate, meetings, and studies Metrolinx hasn't even figured out what level of...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

Why do you say it is more about politics and less about science? The Germans, British, and Chinese beg to differ and God knows all those countries have far superior to Toronto. As for catenary you may very well be right, catenary and maybe the best option but why not give hydrail a try on a...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

I took my dog Hitch to the dog park today and met some of the regulars. One brought up his work and he works for a trucking company and he mentioned hydrogen. He said that the company is hoping to begin to transfer all it's local routes to hydrogen trucks. He said it is a discussion many in the...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

Just to add to the above...…….the Port of Auckland announced last month that it will begin construction of NZ first hydrogen production and fueling station for the port. It will be used to fuel equipment, buses, and cars and will be in full operation by the end of 2019. If little NZ can manage...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

So don't commit to it. Simply get Alstom to lease a couple of hydrogen EMU trains ASAP and put in a small hydrogen fueling station and run them as extra trains on the UPX line. God knows they can't possibly be worse than the brown pieces of shit they are currently running. Remember Ontario has...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

I don't understand why people think that Hydrail couldn't work on high capacity lines. These are not revolutionary trains but quite the opposite. These are very standard Alstom EMU trains that are sold all over the planet all the time. The only difference is that they run on electricity from the...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

Part of the `madness` argument was that there was no way to bring hydrogen to the locomotives for GO, well no kidding. There is also no way to bring 3rd, 4th, or linear technology to the locomotives so why bother bringing it up? Using the excuse that hydrogen locomotives are not feasible is both...

    GO Transit Electrification (Metrolinx, Proposed)

The person who called it madness is incompetent, biased, and disingenuous. They talk about trying to get large 12 car double decker commuter trains as hydrogen as being `madness` well no kidding but who the hell ever proposed that? Electrification is only for the RER section of the GO network...

Montreal to have the largest Subway system in Canada?

While Montreal maybe building iREM very quickly, they can't hold a candle to how fast Toronto can build parking garages.

GTHA Regional Transit Amalgamation Discussion: Superlinx/Subway Upload

While in some ways what you say is true, Torontonians can take the blame for themselves. Ford got into power thanks to the GTA as he was decidedly unpopular in all of the other urban areas. He didn't get one seat in Windsor or London.

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Those trains are horrible and would be nothing but trouble for RER. The hallways are incredibly thin as are the door. Just 2 wheelchairs would practically bring the entire exit/entry to a halt. If they are intent on having 2 levels then they should have complete 2 levels and not where you enter...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

The Dallas DART LRT system {which is much more like RER due to it`s frequency levels and station distances} runs 2 types of vehicles on the SAME train. Most are high floor where a small step is required but the middle trains are lower and platform level for accessibility.

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

I too believe that double-deckers are excellent for a commuter system and GO should use them for their commuter services in rush hour and longer distance hauls. My concern is for the RER service. For RER speed is of the essence and DD are simply too slow :{due to dwell times} and cumbersome...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Double-deckers are fine and even ideal for commuter systems but not for a RER type system. Commuter rail basically just has one way travelers...…...people getting on throughout the route and everyone getting off at it`s termination ie Union. A RER system is, in many ways, more of a subway...
