    Ottawa Transit Developments

Good to know. I had heard some talk about that, but I didn't know if they were withholding the whole payment amount, or just a percentage of it.

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I would say it's probably easier for the City to just withhold all payments than to try to sue to get money back. Would SNC or Alstom sue OC Transpo because they aren't getting paid? Doubtful, and if they do, good luck with that. "You're sucking, so we won't be paying you until you get your...

    Peterborough Commuter Rail

That definitely is an interesting idea. Service patterns for Bowmanville would likely be pretty similar to the service patterns for Peterborough too, so combining those onto one service would make sense.

    Peterborough Commuter Rail

I say wait for VIA HFR and then have a few trains (concentrated in the peak periods) stop in Peterborough on their way. Much better use of resources than running a separate commuter service for what is and what will likely continue to be a pretty small commuter base.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Building a small road tunnel would be a heck of a lot less expensive than building an entirely new airport though, if maintaining Taunton as a through road is a priority (which I agree it should be). Heck, the underpass would probably only need to be about the same size as this one on the 407...

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Agreed. Expand Oshawa to handle the increased GA from Buttonville, and maybe a few charter flights. Improve access to YHM, possibly with some kind of express bus from Aldershot GO once flights reach a critical mass (the A-Line already serves the airport for Hamilton, but that isn't much use for...

Peterborough Area and Highway 7 Corridor studies

Good question. Also waiting to see if the extension of the 400-series Highway 7 to Perth makes it into any kind of plan. That stretch is needed too.

    Hurontario LRT | Metrolinx

Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, I'm pretty sure that's a City of Ottawa logo on the front of that train...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I suppose it could be built as underground parking as well, I can just see that being a pretty costly exercise. As for the units directly above the parking, what I see is the first floor of the towers above the parking being the amenity floor, with the potential for a green roof that doubles as...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Yes. It would be less expensive to build it above the retail than below it. You could build some underground parking for the actual condo units though. I'm thinking something like this, only with point towers above and the street down the middle being pedestrian only (this is in Boulder, CO):

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The 'industrial' stations are actually easier to densify around, because you don't get any NIMBY reaction that way. What I'm thinking is 3-4 storey structures covering most of the site (ground floor retail, 2-3 floors of parking above) with residential towers above that. And if you put enough...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

With a completely double-tracked and electric Trillium Line corridor the Airport Spur wouldn't need to be a spur. It could be operated like the Canada Line in Vancouver (minus the capacity issues and extra fare to get to the airport). That would also mean a direct connection between downtown and...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

What I actually had in mind was to keep that corridor from Carleton north to Bayview, and to upgrade the Southeast Transitway from Heron to Hurdman to LRT as well. The result would be a V-shape line that would run from Bayview to Hurdman via Carleton and Billings Bridge, in effect forming a...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

Why does it need to be a one-size-fits-all though? In Japan they have 3 classes of Shinkansen travel, each with their own price point. You could run the milk run trains that have a lower price point that are about the same time amount as driving, and you can have the express trains that compete...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

Tunney's especially. Bayview I can see because the flow will be bi-directional. But Tunney's as even a temporary terminus should absolutely be an island platform station. I view a Bank St Subway as a replacement for the Trillium Line (at least north of Carleton). Use the existing alignment...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I'm not suggesting it be the immediate priority (Phase 3 is), but realistically we're looking at a 10-15 year horizon for Phase 3. The original Big Move had 15 and 25 year planning horizons. No reason Ottawa can't be starting with the longer-range planning now. Which really makes you wonder...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I think planning needs to start on a N-S tunnel into downtown. Dumping all Trillium Line riders at Bayview isn't a sustainable long-term solution in my opinion.

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

There's currently 3 layers of service in the GTHA: Municipal transit providers, Metrolinx, and VIA. I'm proposing that a new division be created within Metrolinx to manage that exurban market, much like how the UPX division was created to cater to that specific market. And I think there is a...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

I think there's room for another service between GO and VIA. Comfier trains than GO (for the longer trip times), but not all of the bells and whistles like VIA (no drink/food service, for example). The rolling stock currently used on UPX would be a good candidate. My personal preference would...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

That's a good point. Another question for this: Did TTC Park n Ride usage drop after they made the switch from free to paid? From what I gather, the lots are still pretty full.
