    Peterborough Commuter Rail

There are almost 500 Peterboro residents who work in Toronto, plus another 400 working in Whitby and Oshawa. To put that in perspective, there are only 400 Niagara Falls residents working in TO. Not arguing either way, rather making a comparison to another far flung area that did receive a GO...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Sorry I meant the protest (and its outcomes) seem like a form of terrorism.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

    Seems like terrorism.

Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design)

I can't say I've seen posts on this thread saying elevated is evil. Arguments that it doesn't work in this locale from a technical standpoint, removes rail corridor that is currently planned for other projects, capacity, etc. Yes. But not the way you're writing it. Interestingly it's the...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

I've already had my close call with a projectile from a streetcar (originating from the wheel area). But my fairly new fear is a spark falling on me. Got no evidence to back this, but it seems in my eyes at least that streetcars have gotten more sparky. See a lot of zaps and sparks, at least...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Well that was certainly heartfelt and a nice sendoff.

Peterborough Area and Highway 7 Corridor studies

Maybe they ran the numbers and deemed in not necessary, on account of lower cottage country traffic now and going forward. Just a guess on my part, but seems like fewer are opting to own rural properties. And with that less need for rural bypasses.

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

Not going to fault Metrolinx on this one. Well the secrecy and political subterfuge yes. But it is unfortunate, specifically for the notion that P3s were to be a proverbial magic bullet to have things built quicker than in the past. This is working out to be the same amount of time. Also what's...

Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design)

Oh boy, Metrolinx providing special leaks to the Toronto Sun. They've taken a page from the Ford playbook...next up will be the Warmington "exclusives". Before she passed wonder if Diane Ford was a Metrolinx PR consultant.

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

Satellite phones are already old technology, and satellite internet is right around the corner. That still wouldn't solve issues like being in a strong storm, being in a tunnel or deep valley, etc. Definitely better than cell tower connection in fringe areas, but not foolproof. Still though...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

A train yard under the viaduct. What's that squared area in the above image, right below Danforth...a parking lot? Sometimes it seems like large projects come right out of the blue. Wasn't it a year ago that a new and mammoth Oriole station proposal came out of nowhere. If they want to put to...

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

Oh man, blew my mind a bit there. That is basically the solution to the conundrum of autonomous vehicles in that 0.01% situation that demands a human driver. Then immediately I'm now thinking this might be a new multi-billion dollar economy. Who needs complete autonomous vehicles when you can...

Hamilton LRT (Metrolinx/City of Hamilton, Cancelled)

A bus every 12sec, and 45k capacity per direction? Are riders dumped in through the roof with a hopper, and ejected out a hole in the floor? How many lanes would something like that need.. I don't think that's the greatest chart.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Sometimes I think about this. Not removing or narrowing a highway, but instead looking at putting the money toward commuter rail. Take this Durham example. It's about 45km to Union from Brock St in Whitby along the existing GO corridor at the very south end of Durham. But along the CP corridor...

    Fare evasion on the TTC...

    That sounds...like a terrible idea.

Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design)

I thought it was pretty much concluded awhile ago that between Carlaw and East Harbour it will be elevated above the rail corridor, one side. With the guideway roughly taking up the equivalent of one track on the expanded corridor. And the guideway wouldn't use regular T columns, but an inverted...

Put Ontario News Now in there and the site would probably break.

Or you could connect the dots to see a different trend than this 'stopping Ford' stuff. Tunneling a subway along Eglinton East to SC? Stemmed from a backdoor meeting with the Prov. SSE? Promised by the Prov before an election. Ontario Line? Secret plan by the Prov. Seems less like Fords are the...

    Planned Sprawl in the GTA

Well there will be schools, retail, and services. With much of the housing likely acting as a co-op. It's just that the main economy wouldn't be tied to a single large employer/sector (e.g Townsend-Nanticoke). Rather it wold be tied to a single area with many employers (Toronto's core). So a...

Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design)

Ehh, that's not fair. Burloak has been writing about bridges and guideways on this site for many years and is consistent and reliable on the matter. No need to chew-out over citations when they've been given many times in the past. Anyway I think it's possible we may be overthinking the...
