    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

Ukraine would probably concede some of the territory currently held by Russian in exchange for a peace deal, but there's like a million things in there that they would never agree to, even if the US cut off all military aid.

They'd be better off just hiring Osmington to manage the leasing. They'd probably make a lot more money paying them than having it sit empty.

I think people would colloquially refer to Park Snacks as a corner store. It's a broader term than "convenience store", which clearly it is not.

    Parking - Catch All

Parking is insanely cheap in Toronto, and the TPA's pricing strategy has always been completely out of line with the city's goals on traffic management and climate change. But TBH, the work that has been done on Bike Share over the last few years has been phenomenal, so to the extent he's...

I spent a month in Rome while on parental leave, and somehow didn't make it there. Though we lived close to Termini, which has a really nice market (and there's a real market almost next door).

Interesting article. The park just opened this year to much fanfare, and I think the city could do more to keep it operational for a bit longer into the fall, particularly since one of the key aspects of the play area is the water feature. There were field trips from three different schools...

True, and I guess the joke is on me since we got this huge snowfall this weekend. But I've read that it's the earliest large snowfall in Toronto since 1981. I also think that if the city wanted to commit itself to the goal of keeping a few of its signature parks functioning until later in the...

They have really nice desserts. Obviously it's a bit of a splurge item, but if you're bringing a dessert to some sort of dinner, it's probably the best place in the city to go. Not much more expensive than Loblaws, but much higher quality for something like a tiramisu.

    Toronto Wildlife

Fun sighting to see the foxes playing! The Dufferin Grove listserve is full of photos of a pair of foxes. I saw a fox once in Corktown Common, but that was the only time in Toronto for me.

I should add... they turned off the water for the play features and fountains/bottle fillers, seemingly on Nov. 3. You'd think that with a signature new park, they'd find ways to keep the water on until at least the weather gets bad. But the bathroom trailers were well-appreciated.

President Donald Trump's United States of America

Bernie, AOC and Mamdani would all feel comfortable in the federal Liberal party, just like Bob Rae did.

Maybe, though over the last two decades all the marketing was addressed at investors, not end users, and that investment pool seems to have dried up, so marketing could look different in the future.

I don't think the comparisons of Mamdani to Rae or Layton are apt. Those two people became leaders of political parties that weren't expected to win, and they brought unexpected electoral results. Mamdani won the leadership contest of the party that was totally expected to win. He's more like...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

This is the time of the year when this gets particularly important as people who have been sleeping outside try to find warmer spots to spend the night, which the TTC provides (a simple statement of fact, not a statement about where people should be able to find shelter in this city every night).

It's a stupid ranking. But the reality is that other than the cost of housing, Toronto is a fantastic city to live in. We have pretty much everything. So if you secured your housing more than 5-10 years ago and it's affordable for you, it's definitely a top tier city. If you're just moving to...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

It's especially weird because the businesses that do exist in interior neighbourhoods are pretty much universally loved. I can see (though I don't agree with) the complaint about Badiali's specifically, because it's true that a business that gets super popular and crowded disrupts a...

Had a wonderful day at the park with a herd of 6 year olds. It's fun to go on the weekend with just your family, but having the whole playground to yourself and your group of friends is way more fun. The kids basically cried when we told them we had to leave. Then the TTC failed us. We waited...

President Donald Trump's United States of America

Bush blew up both the Middle East, and the global economy. Cheney was his right hand man throughout, though probably more influential on the Middle East than the economy.

    Zoning Reform Ideas

I don't think you'd get any if they weren't required. Which is probably fine. Just wanted to acknowledge that when done right, they are great. I doubt they drive value, though, either for most purchasers or renters.
