Apropos of nothing (hat tip: palma): I thought John Filion's book offered some interesting comments about the roots of Ford populism. Towhey's too, but not because he recognizes the issue.

Not really, Evva. Right now, the reporters want 5W information. The basics — Is it cancer? If so, is it recurrence or something new? What's the treatment plan? Will you keep working? Yadda. Yadda. That's what scrums are like: one is generally looking for basic info. The hashing out comes later...

According Amanda Ferguson's tweet, Rob said it's "99 per cent" sure it's malignant. What's confusing about that? Rob's holding out a bit of faint hope the news will change. Not surprising under the circumstances.

FWIW, it took quite a while for my wife to get her cancer diagnosis. When it arrived though, the treatment plan came together quickly.

Rob has talked about this. He still has a hole in his abdomen to drain fluids that build up inside of him. Ergo the daily visits from the nurse. I gather fluid build up can be an issue after abdominal surgery, but does anybody know how long it normally remains an issue?

I'm confused. Are we supposed to be getting a statement from the Fords today, or is that just speculation because Rob has a meeting with his doctors?

Might be because the docs have a good sense of what they're looking at, based on experience, but can't say for sure until they have the test results. You know: "Well, it's likely this, but it could be this or that."

A "new primary," would be a new cancer, whereas a "second primary" would be the same cancer but in a new location. Is that right?

Local recurrence sounds most plausible to me. He did have a second tumor in his butt, and the bladder doesn't seem that far from the original tumor site, no? Everything seems to be happening in roughly the same area, and in ways that correspond roughly to my understanding of what I've read. If...

I'm not holding my breath. Doug doesn't appear good at follow up, and Rob has yet to show interest in speaking for himself on the subject.

JG... Did you ever get a sense from the statements about Rob's health about how well his surgeons were with achieving desired margins?

Probably. I missed it, either way. But all I'm saying is that if the infection is a lingering issue, it could be what Doug is referring to. That would pretty much prove a sympathy-play strategy as opposed to real news.

Don Peat at the Sun is reporting Rob was hospitalized recently for an infection. Maybe that's issue Doug is talking about. If so, it makes his comments today look pretty well timed to the release of Towhey's book.

After all this time, I shouldn't be surprised. But Doug's quotes in the Star story about Rob's health are too much. "A bump in the road." "It's still in his belly." Dark humour aside, I can't help but wonder if he's dropping hints. His quotes remind of the scene in Filion's book where, with Rob...

Or that the cops were flipped out by the circumstances. But that's for the jury to decide. From what I've seen in the trial coverage so far, the streetcar driver seems to be the only person who kept a cool head, even though he scared shitless.
