    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

As I recall, way back, there was an early batch of tunnel segments that didn't meet the specs for whatever reason. The idea at the time was to use them at the station locations, knowing they'd be sacrificed later. Smart move if that's what actually happened. Its possible because the ring is a...

    Toronto Kipling Station Transit Hub | ?m | 2s | Metrolinx | SAI

Only thing we'll be seeing extended from Kipling in the near term is a fly-under to get the trains under the Milton corridor to TTC's Obico property (looks like it was expropriated in April).

    407 Transitway

I don't think we'll see any LRTs ever replace VIVA or ZUM routes. By the time the may be justified from a ridership perspective, 2035+, buses will be electric and autonomous-enough to operate on existing segregated ROWs. You'll be able to have AV buses that platoon as well, essentially LRT...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It all rests on how the procurement documents and contract documents are constructed - what contractual levers are in place, but also the management of that contract and how the levers are/aren't used. Biggest issue with DBFOMs is owner's treating them like they're still DBB...

    Toronto YZD | ?m | ?s | Northcrest | Henning Larsen

Joining two regional airports sounds like the ideal test bed for hyperloop technology. Short, point-to-point, stick it underground or along a utility corridor, or both.

Does this about capture most of them? Hyperloop from Pickering to Pearson airport might be a bit of a stretch.

Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | Metrolinx

Hate to be a downer, but standard gauge for DRL south is a non-starter. DRL St. Andrew-Pape will be using TTC gauge, therefore anything north will have to use TTC gauge, so you can't share track in the Richmond Hill corrdior...you'd have to convert it all to TTC gauge.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

Agree its not perfect, but its the simplest way to compare projects apples-to-apples...what you're interested in is a relative comparison of some kind. Yes, makes sense. So subway = 3.35B+, LRT= 1.48*(1.02^8) = 1.86. So the difference is $1.8B for the transfer, or $30,000 per daily rider for...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

So that means we should pay $83,000 per daily rider to make a transfer easier, rather than redeploy that money on projects that will bring new transit? For example, Eglinton West LRT gives 26k people new transit for $90k per daily rider, with $1.2B left over.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

LRT still connects you to it, I don't understand.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

Multi-step point/question: - the main argument for the subway extension over LRT is that people shouldn't be forced to make a long, multi-level transfer from LRT to the subway at Kennedy - the reason people would want to make that transfer is that people are trying to get downtown - by far the...

    2018 Provincial Election Transit Promises

As a management consultant: efficiencies either come from getting more done with existing time & resources (reducing backlog, only if you reallocate the time saved from one task to do on another); or with a finite amount to get done, do it with less. The first doesn't save money per se (so...

    2018 Provincial Election Transit Promises

Sounds like Ford just promised to cut the gas tax by 10 cents. I think its generally a flow through to municipalities, so he's essentially playing to his base of cutting taxes, not hitting provincial jobs, but kneecapping the municipalities that use the funding for transit. I hope someone adds...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Absolutely, just means going 5 mins one way, to go back 5 mins the way you came, plus transfer time. Minor complaint to be sure.

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

As a Weston resident, I think its quite reasonable that they close the Weston UPX when both RER is running at 15 mins and they want to add an UPX stop at Mount Dennis. Will suck for getting to the airport, but I and most others predominantly head downtown...so we shouldn't care if its branded...

Dundas St Rapid Transit (Metrolinx, Mississauga, Halton Region, CoT)

If the TTC is indeed looking at the old Obico yard for a new rail yard as is rumored on this forum, I imagine any extension would likely turn south and go through the yard before turning towards Sherway, much like Line 1 travels along the side of Wilson Yard as a part of the extension to...

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Realistically, a viaduct it would have to be tunnelled under Dixon east of Islington where the ROW narrows and you have single-family homes on the street. If I were to map this out, I'd have a tunnel under Dixon east that then turns up under the hydro corridor in the vicinity of Martin Grove...
