    VIA Rail

Indeed, kicking everyone from intermediate stations off the train only to still stop at intermediate stations is a massive slap in the face to their customers. The company owes its customers a frank and open explanation of what happened. If the political pressure was the reason they cancelled...

    VIA Rail

You think that's bad, the last train of the day from Montreal to Ottawa departs at 6:50pm! It makes it a nuisance to me to use the train for day trips to Montreal from my house near Ottawa Station. And if they had gone through with the non-stop train proposal it would have been even more brutal...

    VIA Rail

Unlikely. There are no eastbound Via trains that late in the evening, so the express track is always available for westbound Via trains to overtake whatever GO train they're stuck behind. From my experience riding Via trains into Toronto, it is extremely common for dispatchers to fail to let...

    VIA Rail

It could be an LRC set, or a Venture set that has 32 axles. Those are not subject to the speed restrictions. You can tell what type of train it is and how long the train is by looking at the seat selection chart. Ventures are identifiable by the area hatched out for the cab in the first or last...

    VIA Rail

to make a platform longer you just need to add more platform adjacent to the existing bit. No need to undo any work that was done. It appears they left plenty of room for longer platforms.

Clearly I know that already, given that I was talking about the elimination of the stop in Kingston. There were things that were valid to correct about my post, but this was not one of them. Thanks for pointing that out! So it turns out the issue I described for Toronto-Ottawa passengers is...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Nice try, but this "umm actually" attempt is a total miss. I was explicitly talking about buses with seatbelts (i.e. all new buses in the past five years) and I provided links to the laws (not operating rules) that apply to buses with seatbelts.

because the old MCIs don't have seatbelts. Like I said, passengers are required by law to use seatbelts if they are provided, and seatbelts are required by Transport Canada on coach buses built after September 2020.

They leave people behind if there are no available seats. This has already been the case for a few years.

    VIA Rail

Like @Urban Sky said, the main bottlenecks are in places that would likely be entirely bypassed by HSR (e.g. Smiths Falls), so it wouldn't make sense to invest in them now. However, there are investments that would be necessary for HSR which would also provide speed/reliability benefits in the...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

It's strange that they added more handholds considering you're not allowed to stand on coach buses that are equipped with seatbelts. What on earth are you talking about? The ambience is basically the same as the double deckers, and not even remotely like a school bus.

    VIA Rail

I think that the implementation of Via's morning non-stop train to Montreal (Train 60) is problematic for a couple reasons. First of all, it's coupled to Train 50, but since the schedule for 50 isn't being changed, there are no time savings on that trip. If skipping stops saves 30 minutes, the...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

North Bay is less than 300 km from Toronto, so there really shouldn't be any need for a flight. In the absence of a flight, the next-fastest mass transport mode would be the bus, not the train. It's only a 3-hour drive from North Bay to Hwy 407 station, so even with a connecting subway ride...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

That's odd considering the Spadina/Front station has a lot of potential to reduce crowding at Union, which would increase its throughput. But I guess if Mx is scaling back their GO Expansion plans then the capacity at Union would be less of a concern to them than when they were actually trying...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

And if we want the 4th track to reach Port Credit we also need an additional bridge over Dixie Rd and a widened embankment on the south side of Port Credit station including a new station building. But a 'fairly pricy undertaking' is probably still worthwhile given that we're talking about...

    VIA Rail

But if they're running 32-axle consists, the schedule should be achievable with the scheduled stops because there are no speed restrictions. Via says they expect the trains to arrive 30 to 40 minutes early, which is way beyond keeping up with the schedule.

    VIA Rail

Trains 62 and 63 are right after trips that are converted to express. Via may be lengthening consists to accommodate the displaced passengers.

    VIA Rail

The only single-platform stations served by Montreal trains are Brockville and Cornwall. The rest of the single-platform stations (Port Hope, Trenton, Napanee, Gananoque, Coteau) are only served by Ottawa trains anyway. The only intermediate stations served by Montreal trains are: Guildwood (3...
