It's not within their mandate because the RT isn't a federally regulated railway (unlike the Trillium/Confederation lines in Ottawa). Nonetheless, they can be invited to investigate and provide advice. FWIW, GO Transit doesn't fall under TSB jurisdiction when operating on Metrolinx-owned track...

Or instead of packing all the Toronto-London passengers into car 5 (mostly students with large bags), they could update the reservation system to spread out passengers at a minimal cost and decrease dwell time that way...

Kind of like this, but only Presto card transactions get passed through to the central system. Ottawa's system has to interoperate with STO's which complicates development. Support might come at a later date, but the TTC really wants virtual Presto cards and open payment this quarter so...

Ottawa isn't getting it either since they're primarily using FareGO for their back end. Edit July 26, Ottawa is probably getting it, implementation took less time than expected. Expect an announcement imminently. Apple Pay with a credit/debit card will still work though...

It's not likely, at least the initial implementation. Right now, from a software development standpoint, the focus is finishing up/testing the "interface" between FareGo for the TTC Fare Gates and the rest of the Presto back end to enable account-based transactions (virtual card/open payment)...

How is this a total rework of the fare system? It's pretty much just the previous GO-TTC discount, but with a bigger discount...
