    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I had a fantastic experience using Ventra in Chicago. Instead of buying a specific card, I just purchased a 3 day pass. I was then able to "store" the pass to my contactless credit card, using that as fare media to tap in and out at station gates. So easy!

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Lucky you not to be a regular user of the Ossington bus:) It does service Liberty Village sub-optimally as the route is a bit convoluted to get around the rail line. http://www.ttc.ca/Routes/63/RouteDescription.jsp?tabName=map This route seems to suffer rather severe bunching, such that it's...

    Toronto Bike Share

Kind of hilarious. In the time it takes to do any sort of a "business case", they could just spend a few grand and go ahead and install a Presto reader on a turnstile. You know, maybe the TTC even has an extra sitting around!

I think Mark Twain's quote on school boards could be adapted: "In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then he made School Boards."

    Roads: Traffic Signals

If a driver is turning right on red, it is his responsibility to yield to all other traffic that has the right of way.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I think the last revision of the revised revision was that 16 streetcars were to be actually be in revenue service by end of 2016. So that means we're still two short of the goal for 2 weeks ago. As a reminder, the original promise was 67 by end of 2015 (or as some articles read October of...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Streetcar routes down Dundas, Dovercourt & Ossington? That's a little bit overkill. Even Ossington is probably a little light on the ridership for a streetcar route.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Seems the easiest way to solve this debate. Remove this stop and stick with the approximately 800 meter spacing appropriate for the area.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

That's around 50 cents per kilometre! Makes the UPX look cheap ;)

Haha. My partner takes the Dirty Duffy a good distance for his commute twice a day. I'm surprised he hasn't started a blog about it.

This cannot possibly be hard. If these readers can function on buses that go through tunnels and into Scarberia, then it surely can function on one stationary fare gate at the island ferry terminal.

    TTC: Budgeting, Fares and Financials

I was under the impression that this level of automation won't be implemented until they have platform edge doors installed.

    Taxis and ride-sharing in Toronto

I'm having some rather mixed feelings about this new service. I kind of understand making an effort to serve transit desserts like Liberty Village. Not happy though to see them serving West Queen West...the last thing anyone needs is for even more car congestion on Queen Street at peak times...

Toronto Was Once A Global Leader In Transit

Very much agreed. Those who think Toronto is anywhere near a world leader probably don't have a passport. I will say there's very good coverage of the city, so that almost everyone is well-connected to some transit. In terms of improving transit, the problem is very much a lack of vision...

    TTC surface stop spacing

I agree the stop spacing is absolutely insane in this city. I think much of the support for it (even on this discussion forum) is inertia. There's a good NYT article that discusses San Francisco and their efforts to eliminate stops...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

That's exactly what I do. Although since your balance doesn't display when you tap, you'll only figure out the hard way when something breaks. I figured out my autoload was broken when my balance went negative and I got the "uh oh" beep from the streetcar reader.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Thanks for the link...it's a fun read. Just for fun on my way in this morning, I watched a few light cycles at College & Spadina. Typically the left-turn phase delays a southbound Spadina streetcar by about 18 seconds, and sometimes that's just for one vehicle with one driver to clear the...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I've noticed this problem with the new streetcars sometimes when the transfers get printed. A few times the location was wrong, and once even the direction of travel was wrong. It will be worth checking Presto transaction histories carefully once the new transfer table goes live.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Really? Just 2 days after 4415? In my list I have 4414 arriving on Dec. 12, 4415 on Dec. 29. Right?
