    Rogers Centre Replacement Fantasies

I realize this is just a quick mockup (and a good one), but I don't think there's be any point in building a stadium like that. It's open air, but you get no skyline views, etc. Might as well still be in the Rogers Centre. Personally I'd rather see the Portlands developed as a community rather...

    Toronto International Film Festival

Agreed. I usually try to find something I'm completely unfamiliar with.

Horrific. A random tower with no relation to anything below it. Can we just leave this block alone, or at the very least update/restore what's there? Not surprising, sadly, for a city that does such an awful job with its own history.

I really appreciate the use of brick. The concern is understandable, but this could be one of those projects that ends up being better than the renderings.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Given that the Ontario Line is the one subway project the government has been adamant on value-engineering, I'd be pleasantly surprised if the bridge was anything but utilitarian.

We're building fairly deep in other areas of the city/GTA and it doesn't seem to be much of an issue. Here, it's a necessity.

I wonder if they could take a cue from Rogers Place in Edmonton and give it some sort of cladding?

    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

I've never quite got that criticism. I get it when looking at the exterior, but on a nice day with the roof open I feel like I'm in a stadium watching a game. It's never felt like a generic concrete bunker. The experience with the roof closed is decidedly worse, no doubt. That's something I...

    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

Shapiro also mentioned that the future could include an even larger scale renovation to the current building, and that exterior updates may be considered after this renovation is complete. What we've seen so far is only Phase 1 - I still find it very hard to believe there's only going to be a...

I don't quite get it either. It doesn't look corporate at all to me. They've actually made great use of the Blue Jay colours from their brand, uniforms, etc.

I agree with you, but I also understand. At the end of the day it's part of the product and there is a certain need to update the experience to maintain/increase revenue and profits. That said, I think this facility has many decades of life in it yet - especially with updates like this.

I can't help but think these changes should buy a lot more than 10-15 years.

Apparently these renderings focus on the outfield changes being completed this offseason. The lower bowl changes (or more details) may come later. Overall I like it so far.

    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

Looks cool in the way renderings generally do. It looks like there are raised outfield walls, while right now people can sit at nearly ground level. I'm not sure that's an improvement.

    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

I wonder if there's anything they can do to the exterior to make it less 'bunker' like. Renderings are apparently being released at 1:30pm today.

    Toronto Rogers Centre Renovations | ?m | ?s | Toronto Blue Jays | Populous

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Populous plans. I still don't get the disdain for this place - with the roof open it's a good place to watch a game. Far less so with the roof closed, but then most places aren't great with the roof closed.

    Wow. These are hideous.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

It seems cutting city council in half was the first step in a multi-step process. There are certainly benefits of having a 'strong mayor' in place, but with a reduced council that has less power does the Mayor simply become an extension of the Premier? I guess we'll have to see what exactly...

Agreed. Even if the design remains the same, I'll see this as a win.
