A design to a percentage has been done. The rest would have been done by the contractor, but a design to a percentage has already been done in advance. Some portions of that design is presented to Hamilton City Counil, and is still in City of Hamilton record, and for now, still downloadable...

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

My city, Hamilton, just started testing driverless cars on the Mountain. They're manned at the moment, but it may just be a matter of time before they are unmanned like some fleets in some USA cities. Stretch out the timelines from 5 years to 10/20/30 years and what's happening is going to...

Ontario legalizing e-scooters!!! (Bird, Lime, segway, electric kickscooter, micro mobility, electric skateboards)

About tipped-over scooters, they annoy me too -- I wrote a post about this too. Now, of the 4 (now 5 cities) I visited with scooters in 2 (now 3) different countries -- 2 cities had had made a royal mess but the others were OK; had done a much better management/enforcement of scooter parking...

I think a subway is overkill except for a one-station hop on the escarpment climb -- a tunnel ramp section of A-Line. It would make Hamilton LRT climb the escarpment more easily by giving weather protection to the steepest part of a theoretical Hamilton LRT A-Line. The alternate routes can...

Silver lining: The formerly cancelled Eglinton subway now exists, reborn as Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Hamilton LRT, is all but certain, to have repeated attempts at resurrections. They're not going to give up rolling the dice.

Ontario legalizing e-scooters!!! (Bird, Lime, segway, electric kickscooter, micro mobility, electric skateboards)

IMHO, helmets should depend on scooter weight & speed class. Electric kickscooters smaller and lighter and slower than a bicycle SHOULD NOT make helmet-mandatory for adults (of our age). We can decide to wear one but it should not break the law if we don't wear a helmet. Some of the scooters...

Attempt? ;) Obligatory very-old meme that predates memes: Seriously though; odds of resurrection does indeed dramatically increase after Ford leaves. However, even before then, onus is us to make sure that Hamilton is not shortchanged of the approved $3.7B ($1B capital + 30 year maintenance...

    Mississauga GO Transit: Cooksville GO Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | WalterFedy

It is a great looking rendering -- wish this was the Hamilton LRT (which will be resurrected, BTW) -- I have a question: How easy is it to walk between the LRT platform and the GO train platform? This rendering doesn't seem to suggest the walking route.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Even 1h30min if electrified (and that can bring an Acela between Toronto-NYC too). The Toronto-Hamilton-Niagara route, while very inefficiently utilized now, has lots of potential in the coming decades (climate agenda, Golden Horseshoe densification, etc). West Harbour boomed in ridership...

Hah! I'm an Ottawan -- born in Ottawa. I remember when the Ottawa LRT was cancelled in 2006. Siemens sues for $177M over Ottawa's cancelled LRT https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/siemens-sues-for-177m-over-ottawa-s-cancelled-lrt-1.664607 And guess what is in Ottawa today?.... (Mind you...

More clean power. Attach a generator to the spinning Jane Jacobs and generate electricity. Then Ford will be forced to build LRTs and electrify GO to use up the surplus electricity. Win-win-win. Garbage! I hereby figuratively attach 3 files to this. <3 File Attachments...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

There is a place for good BRTs. A-Line is a more appropriate place for a good BRT. However, there's something called BRT creep. Do not let this happen to Hamilton.

Certain well-known NOLRT people — some of whom rarely rides a bus — do that to us a lot.

I'm going offer one step more ambitious. Both A-Line (Limeridge) and B-Line LRTs funded by 2022 or 2026. We surely can do that for $3-5B. The demographics are changing rapidly enough that we may have an electorate, by 2026, voting in members of Council that will fund a $1B+$1B+$1B three-way...

    Spadina Rapid Transit Line (Speculative)

If we implement transit priority on Spadina, this can be an opportunity to lengthen the vehicles to 2-LRV or 3-LRV consists. Modify the stops to be all-door level boarding without a ramp. Or at least 45-meter 7-segment Flexities. Make them double-ended so the long trains don't need to...

I don't think it's over yet. Panic politics is going on as we speak. I'd say 33%:33%:33% odds of: - Scaled back LRT ...truncated at Queston Traffic Circle, all urban realm downgraded, single LRV, - An upgraded B-Line BRT ...quickly use the $1B of year 2015 Canadian currency = $1.3B today - A...
