    Scarborough-Malvern LRT

What's the reason this isn't continuous with Eglinton LRT? Are they worried it would become too unweildy? Or do they think most people coming up here will be coming from B-D subway anyway, so it won't be a big deal?

    Transit City Plan

If in 100 years these roads turn into Bloor, I would hope that they'd have subways by then ;) But then again with Canada you never know!

    Transit City Plan

What the heck? Don Mills is one of the widest streets in the entire city... there's huge grass areas on either side of this 6-laned colossus. That's more than you can say for Sheppard. Not only that, but neither Don Mills nor Sheppard need street parking unless they are also planning to demolish...

    Waterfront: General Topics

Looks like a really awesome plan. If they could turn the area into a sort of 'The Beach' west that would be awesome. I realize that Queen street is not so nearby, but with the inclusion of shops and retail perhaps that would be possible. I wonder if there is any space along lakeshore between it...

Universal Health Care - Still Not Possible in US

Actually in a strictly money sense, it costs far less for that 60 year old working person to die of a massive heart attack, then for the 85 year old previously physically healthy person who's been withdrawing from CPP and OAS for years, who gets dementia and slowly deteriorates over 5 years...

Transit expansion in Toronto, but nothing for the downtown

I'd gather a large amount of people who spend their days posting on a message board about buildings probably don't have kids :) (or have families and thus need to live in a house)

    CityPlace Condos

I think you'd need 20 years for stuff like that to flesh out. Enough time for the original owners/investors to have all moved out.

    Transit City Plan

Well hopefully the entire St. Clair episode has taught the TTC a thing or two about how to do these things better.

    Conservative Attack Ads

Well I still think that generally people aren't angry enough with the Conservatives to actually vote the Libs in as a majority. I think it would be hard for the Libs to even be a minority, unless the Conservatives have some major missteps or Iggy shows some really awesome plans that can fix this...

    Transit City: Sheppard East Debate

I was thinking of this the other day in the other thread about making sure people paid :) Really all of this speculation about people not paying and 'getting onto the subway' is kind of silly. If people really wanted to not pay, they could easily not pay now... they just walk into any...

    Transit City Plan

What I find funny is that if the LRT didn't extend all the way out there, people would be complaining: Wow, so the LRT is only going to be 6km long? And then people are going to have to TRANSFER AGAIN to a bus out to Morningside??!

    Monolithic Sidewalk

I dunno, I thought that sign looks kind of friendly. You can almost make out the the two 'eyes' on the plow (the lights), with a big nose (the grille) and a big happy face mouth (the plow).

    Transit City Plan

Well the other major reason why Transit City will be faster than traditional bus routes is the semi-exclusive ROW. Sure you can also built bus semi-exclusive ROWs, but generally you get lower capacity. You can only run buses so close together due to start/stop and safety. Meanwhile one train...

    Transit City Plan

Funny how you say this, yet you think that VCC can't be built without a subway.

    Transit City Plan

The point is, these are necessary improvements. The city has already committed to more bike lanes. The roads as they are currently also need major overhauls (lots of places in these suburban roads have to be dug up too for water mains), with the related expenses and disruption of traffic...

    Transit City Plan

It's important to keep in mind that one of the many reasons why TC costs so much is because all the roads will be completely rebuilt. Some of these roads (i.e. Sheppard, Finch) are in pretty horrid shape and would probably have to be completely fixed up sometime soon anyway. I drive down these...

    Tamil Protests downtown

I wouldn't just blame immigrants. It's 2nd generation people removed from a conflict. In the 1950s the Chinese people didn't protest against Japan, but young Chinese in China who were born 30 years after WWII did just a few years ago. When you are not directly there, you tend to see...

    Conservative Attack Ads

These ads aren't exactly targetting anyone who uses this forum (aka Torontonians, people interested in urban life). So basically they won't work on anyone here. They will work on the multitudes who have been suspicious of Iggy from the start. I think the critical miscalculation though, is that...
