    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I heard that Ottawa was using cellular technology onboard their buses to make their load time within 4 hours. Is it not possible to use this same technology to make updates very close to real time? (not an expert so I'm not sure)

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

ya, the TTC and the city of toronto seem to have been doing the right thing with looking for cheaper options because Metrolinx really screwed up presto. I still love my presto card and want ttc to adopt it now but with hindsight, i wouldve preferred a more competent leadership at metrolinx which...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

From what I read about the auditor general's report on Presto, v1 was supposed to include all the features including open payment. the company presto got to create the system however failed to accomplish this. presto in its incredible stupidity decided instead of taking the company to court and...

    Brampton Transit/Zum

The councilors who voted for this are obviously not transit riders and probably care a lot more about building up the downtown and increasing property values. The greatness of LRT would be diminished significantly when it ends up forcing a transfer at Airport Road for all those trying to get to...

    Brampton Transit/Zum

That is true. That's why didnt want to put too much blame on BT for the slow progress of Zum Steeles (even though Steeles also has relatively limited hours) Ya i agree, you really can't blame the planners. I'm sure there doing the best they can, they just don't have enough funding.

    Brampton Transit/Zum

They risk reducing the Zum brand with the 505 not having evening or night service. It was already troublesome with Zum Steeles yet to finish construction (and having people wait in the grass next to a hydro pole at Torbram) but now it seems they have just abandoned the idea of keeping Zum a...

    New Transit Funding Sources

You make a very fair point. I hadn't considered the rebates and exemptions. I think I would still prefer revenue tools that give incentive to not drive (like road tolls) compared to am HST hike. If that's not enough, I'd prefer income and corporate tax hikes on those who can definitely afford...

    New Transit Funding Sources

Despite being a socialist, I dislike Andrea Horwath and the NDP for many reasons. However this may not be one of them. I support tax hikes to support services so I don't have a bias against these revenue tools (and some of them may make sense like road tolls which reduce the incentive to drive)...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I checked with Brampton Transit. They confirmed that there current plan is to have the 501 go to VMC while having the 501A go to Pioneer Village so i guess YRT did consult brampton

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I definitely hope Brampton considers what you're proposing. Though the 501 does get some good ridership, its continuance is a drain on the much more popular 501A. With a frequent and streamlined viva orange to Finch and RHC, it would make sense to eliminate the overlap with viva.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I sort of agree but connecting the 501A (which is by far the more popular branch) to VMC has the advantage of connecting to VIVA silver and VIVA orange. Though I do see that on the other hand, it looks like alot of routes are converging at Pioneer Village so it might be advantageous to go there too.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I hope so too! I don't think Brampton would be stupid enough to do an unnecessary loop for the 501A to get to Pioneer Village so I think its safe to say they weren't consulted. Though, if TTC doesn't find a way to give York U students a way to ride without a double fare, its likely that Brampton...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

Aren't fare zone boundaries also arbitrary lines? And how about people who don't pay with PRESTO?

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

I was thinking a flat rate regardless of distance travelled. Its very similar to how things are done now except the rates would be standardized and the TTC would be conforming with 905 fare and transfer rules. I think it will be necessary for the TTC to maintain a double fare though. There is no...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

I would prefer a little less radical kind of reform: There should be three fare "tiers": TTC, all other local agencies, and GO. TTC and the other local agencies would operate under the same rules. Pay one fare to access everything. There will continue to be a double fare to use both the TTC...

    Brampton Transit/Zum

Id rather they raised their fares to $4 than cut the frequency of grid routes lower than 30 minutes during any day of the week. I am also ok with them cutting frequency or eliminating non-grid routes that are not well used.

    Brampton Transit/Zum

Sigh...I suppose what you are saying is right and Brampton transit (as it usually does) made the right call. Guess I gotta wait until 2016 to zum to the subway.

    Brampton Transit/Zum

I sort of agree with you in terms of maintaining the grid but the 505 turning to connect to the airport would be very nice too. I don't live near bovaird so I would get no benefit from this but Im sure it would make transit much more attractive for the ppl who do live on Bovaird. When North East...

    Brampton Transit/Zum

I feel like a connection to the subway would spur an increase in a ridership too and should offset some of the costs. I believe the TTC controls the busway and it is possible they charge other agencies to use it. This might be adding to the cost of expanding the route.

    Brampton Transit/Zum

Even if the capital costs were low, I think it would be too expensive to operate for them now. I have emailed them several times since Zum Queen started to extend the line down to Downsview via the York University busway so we have a direct connection to the subway until the subway is extended...
