    Toronto 316 Bloor West | 121.14m | 37s | State Building Group | Kirkor

Ugh. Considering its prominence and transit accessibility, they should be able to build it as tall as they want. A new precedent has to be set for this part of Bloor (and west).

    Toronto Burke Condominiums | 163.4m | 53s | Concert | Arcadis

Seriously. This area is so barren right now; it really needs this kind of density and life.

    Toronto Time and Space Condos | 101.8m | 29s | Pemberton | Wallman Architects

I still think this extreme density looks amazing and would push this area in a good direction. From what I can tell, I hope it’s approved by the OMB.

    Toronto 160 Front West | 239.87m | 46s | Cadillac Fairview | AS + GG

Yes; it’s terribly banal. Another giant blue glass chunk. It’s going to be especially sterile at street level, but the whole thing is sterile.

    Toronto One Bloor East | 257.24m | 76s | Great Gulf | Hariri Pontarini

It’s wonderful that you’re doing better! I’m happy to hear it. Thank you for the health update

    Toronto Mirvish Village (Honest Ed's Redevelopment) | 85.04m | 26s | Westbank | Henriquez Partners

Trees on roofs isn’t that uncommon. Here’s an Annex example.

    Toronto Mirvish Village (Honest Ed's Redevelopment) | 85.04m | 26s | Westbank | Henriquez Partners

Unbelievable. Incredible. This is exactly what I’ve always dreamed of in terms of development. Narrow retail/buildings to create a diverse, vibrant pedestrian experience, amazingly solid, dense streetwall, moderately tall to match the fact that it's on subway and streetcar lines... This is so...
  8. arvelomcquaig

    Toronto 700 Bay Street | 94.79m | 32s | KingSett Capital | BDP Quadrangle

Yes, exactly; so much more elegant and urban-looking without a podium.

    Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

Eight storeys of small independent businesses, I hope; a vertical Kensington.

    Toronto Daniels Waterfront - City of the Arts | 156.05m | 45s | Daniels | RAW Design

Ugh. It seems awful. Reminds me of the worst parts of CityPlace. So many huge walls of glass in different angles and with a few weird patterns and ugly colours thrown in here and there to try to disguise the fact that it’s just a big pile of glass. It looks embarrassing in these renderings.

    Downtown, Midtown and Uptown

What? Since when? I thought it was always said to be Bloor to the waterfront, Bathurst to Don River.

    Toronto 75 on The Esplanade | 99.97m | 29s | Harhay | a—A

Ha, what?!! “[C]ontinue to build tiny commercial spaces”? It’s the exact opposite: retail in new developments is way too big. Whereas on streets replete with old retail—Queen West, Kensington, etc.—stores are narrow and go far back from the street, recent stores are almost block-long banalities...

    Toronto 700 Bay Street | 94.79m | 32s | KingSett Capital | BDP Quadrangle

Wow. I like it. Amazing density, not 100% glass cladding, somewhat interesting-looking...

    Toronto Social at Church + Dundas | 164.89m | 52s | Pemberton | RAW Design

That’s a useful illustration! Thank you.

    Toronto 316 Bloor West | 121.14m | 37s | State Building Group | Kirkor

Yes. Almost everything west of this site for a block or two is criminally short and architecturally perfunctory (if not hideous, like the Metro, the SDM, and the awful sports bar type thing). I hope most of this stuff gets redeveloped. I can't fathom why such a prominent and transit-accessible...

    Toronto 316 Bloor West | 121.14m | 37s | State Building Group | Kirkor

Finally! This area needs to finally go in this direction. It’s been freakishly short for too long.

    Toronto Sun Life Financial Tower & Harbour Plaza Residences | 236.51m | 67s | Menkes | Sweeny &Co

Yes, exactly. It’s really disturbing. One of the salient features of downtown Toronto that distinguish it from the suburbs is the prevalence of retail that’s unique and locally owned, as opposed to the same five American-owned chains repeated ad nauseam everywhere you go. This small, independent...

    Toronto Sun Life Financial Tower & Harbour Plaza Residences | 236.51m | 67s | Menkes | Sweeny &Co

I never said everyone living in the area should only shop at high-end retailers; I said that they can afford better than Walmart. There are more options in the world than Walmart and Nordstroms. Let’s keep this area “real” by not precluding the presence of small businesses with the dominance of...
