It seems a lot of people who ‘attended’ this open house share my sentiments regarding the cost vs transit benefits:

Hamilton’s LRT must be breaking records for most renders! At least the ‘Most Differing Renders for One Project’ record. We’ve had three different maps, and now a 5th LRV render! Now that I point this out, the City’s gonna start calling it ‘Record Breaking’ in its PR materials.

Any updates on Main Street? The meeting was apparently 3 weeks ago… Also, the City’s DRP Website again hasn’t been updated in almost two months (last update Oct 11), despite a meeting on Nov 9th?

It’s not the responsibility of Provincial & Federal tax payers to replace Hamilton’s ageing infrastructure. ps I love the ever-changing description (Reliable, High Capacity) since it’s def not Rapid Transit anymore lol

Exactly. This project now puts land owners & developers first, and transit riders (and renters) last. That’s not fair. Let’s save money and implement Re-Envision HSR with Bus Lanes, Enhanced Stops, and Electric-Hybrid Buses. If Hamilton wants new sewers and pipes, the City can pay for it...

It’s become pretty obvious that all Hamilton really needs to improve public transit is its Re-Envision HSR plan with bus lanes and enhanced vehicles/amenities. All for 1/3 of the cost. The plan we have now benefits land/property owners first, with transit riders taking the back seat. LRT...

We’ve got to ask who’s benefitting from this $3.4 Billion (taxpayer-funded) project that won’t get Hamiltonians across the City any faster (as promised), but will significantly increase property values along a route with all new underground infrastructure…

And what about the City’s deal with Loblaws to maintain surface parking at the plaza? Has that been scrapped? This whole process has been too secretive, leaving everyone guessing all the time. It would be very nice if they would be more transparent. That goes for all Metrolinx projects though.

They may not have to trim the trees as they likely won’t grow enough to be needed. Keep an eye out for branches growing out of the base of the tree; A sign of stress. Planting the trees abutting the sidewalk would have created a nice canopy over both the sidewalk and part of King William...

The tree is way too close to the building to grow properly. Every source I can find says trees should be planted anywhere from 4’ to 20’ from a building’s foundation. Even the renders show properly-placed trees. Weird.

Apparently Metrolinx plans to use 30 metre LRVs which hold 130 people total. If an articulated B-Line bus came every 3 mins vs one LRV every 6 mins, it would carry 20 more passengers in that same time frame. And the bus would arrive to its destination quicker than the new LRT routing.

They can’t advertise it as Rapid Transit anymore then. It’s a Tram, or a Streetcar, whatever you prefer. It’s what we’re getting.
