Now That Obama Is In, Should Canada + USA Become 1 Country?

Give your head a shake. Obama was certainly the right choice for America, but his policies would make him a right wing wacko here. For example, -He doesn't support universal health care -He wants to escalate Afghanistan -He's against gay marriage -He's pro-capital punishment

Toronto, we're number ? of the cities with the best commutes.

Yeah but at least most people riding GO or the TTC make it to work alive. http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/07/23/india.trains.reut/index.html On average, 4,000 people die a year on Mumbai's railways, crushed under trains, electrocuted by overhead power lines or killed as they lean...

2008 Federal Election: GTA Voting Patterns

And why wouldn't he? Kennedy is a Liberal, and actually his defeating a "strong" NDP candidate was one of the few bright spots for the party in this election.

    Nuit Blanche

That's exactly what I said to one of my friends after we'd been there for about 5 minutes. We waited 5 more then moved on as nothing appeared to be happening. MLG was definitely the highlight (though not for the art). It was lined up around the corner but it did move fast, we probably only...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

Of course highways aren't "free" as we pay for them through taxes. But that is completely irrelevant to this discussion. Basic economic theory tells us that individual decisions are driven by marginal costs. The marginal cost of using a highway in this province is currently $0 (except the 407)...

Southcore Financial Ctr: PricewaterhouseCoopers Tower (18 York St, bcIMC, 26s, KPMB)

Here's a shot of the site taken on Sunday. Note that the two trailers in the northeast corner are for the Union south platform project and have been there for months (you can also see progress being made on that in this shot). There are however two new trailers on the southwest corner of the...

    Toronto London On The Esplanade Condos | 102.1m | 33s | Cityzen | Burka

Assuming you only have a tentative occupancy date, then the following applies: If the purchase agreement gives a tentative occupancy date, your builder is required to inform you in writing of the confirmed occupancy date no later than 30 days after the roof assembly is completed (or another...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

Exactly. Waterfront Toronto has enough on its plate as it is (in fact they just announced delays of years to several projects). Anyone who thinks that shutting down the island airport will instantly result in parkland is dreaming. Thankfully, Porter is doing just fine and the airport won't be...

    Metrolinx $55 Billion Plan

Looks like a pretty good plan to me. Far better than anything Giambrone and Miller have come up with so far.

Toronto Ryerson's Mattamy Athletics Centre + Loblaws at the Gardens | ?m | ?s | Ryerson University | Turner Fleischer

I wonder how that's going to work. Didn't they auction all the seats off after the Leafs left? I remember CTV news did a story on the Gardens a while back and it was in pretty terrible condition inside... As for what to do with the building, it's a travesty that it has sat there rotting for a...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

I agree with most of what you've said, but here you're just plain wrong. Our waterfront is vibrant and full of life, from Bay to Bathurst at least. There is plenty of public space between the "wall of condos" and the water, and it is well used by residents and visitors alike. Go fight the crowds...

    Toronto Infinity Condos | ?m | 35s | Conservatory Group | Richmond Architects

^ Agreed. Balconies are great in theory but in reality most people don't use them much at all, myself included.

    Forbes: Canada's Top 25 Attractions

^ sure but the same can be said for Stanley Park or the Old Port of Montreal. It's still a major tourist destination. The central waterfront has already improved dramatically in the last few years, and it's going to be even better in a few more. On a nice day there's not a better setting in this...

    Forbes: Canada's Top 25 Attractions

Last time I checked the ferry docks were located at the foot of Bay street, not part of Habourfront Centre. Ferry traffic would not be included. 12 million might seem a little high, but go down there at this time of year. There's always lots of people, and when they have their various festivals...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

Parkland does not equal vibrancy. There's a good amount of parkland already, and lots more on the way. As for vibrancy, have you been down there lately? South of Queen's Quay is packed with people from Yonge to Bathurst all the time (well, except for the winter). The central waterfront is pretty...
