    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

If you have the money to install electrification, it makes no sense to install 2 different systems and require all trains to operate both catenary and third rail. Outer potions of the line will go faster than 150km and have level crossings which will make installing third rail incredibly...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

I know the area quite well. Last time I tried crossing at Ahrens, the crossing was blocked by a fence; they've closed it for the train platform. Unless someone cut a hole in the fence, I don't think it's open for pedestrians. Having walked it, it definitely is a significant detour on foot. In...

So, about that GO electrification :3

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Not permanently, just not a priority. There's lots that could be done to connect the RH line to the Leaside rail corridor, but upgrading the Yonge line and building the DRL would be competing for the same pot of money.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It's certainly possible, but at this point it's probably exceedingly unlikely (NIMBYism aside). You'd encounter issues surrounding the need to provide grade separation on the RH line at the request of CP to have the RH line cross from the south to the north side of the tracks. This grade...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

I think he means on the portion of the line north of King, or to the west of the King Overpass. I'm still not clear why east wouldn't work for a 6-car train. There's at least 150m of space between the King St overpass and the proposed bridge connecting Western Battery to Douro. Is the grade...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

The hyper-local service would be only one layer of GO service. There would also be express service running on the same line with 15 minute frequency during peak in addition to the local running every 7.5 minutes. I'm treating RER mainly as a subway-type service with stops around every 1-2km and...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Probably the most critical piece to make all of this work is the tunnel under the Union Station Rail Corridor to run RER service. As for additional stop locations on an electrified RER/REX line, I've given it some thought. Italics mean express GO trains stop there as well From west to east...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Metrolinx serves a larger area than the GTHA and ultimately needs to remain at the provincial level. However, this doesn't mean that the governence model shouldn't change. Previously, metrolinx had politicians from the local municipalities on its board. While I still think this is a bad idea, I...

SkyTran Being Tested, If Successful Will Spread To Other Cities

I have no idea where they found this highway, it's verry grassy. Also, is that supposed to be the Nashville skyline? Cleveland?

Still going off-topic here, please feel free to move this discussion to another thread if you see fit. Since I was only 7 years old when the GTA Task force and Anne Golden were a thing, I did some reading up. I was confused about what you were getting at for a moment; Golden/Rae was trying to...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Perhaps a bit off-topic, but I see Toronto's relationship to the province being similar to London's relationship to England; a city-state, capital, and primary city within a less densely-population region of Southern Ontario. I beleive that Toronto could benefit from the creation of a Greater...

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

So, Keele then? Honestly, given the constraints in the corridor, I don't see how you could do it with reasonable curves without grade separation or cutting deep into otherwise developable land and wasting space in order to make a continuous road.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Given the track capacity issues at Union, It's my hope that that this will accelerate the priority of electrifying the Lakeshore, Kitchener, and Stouffville rail corridors and construction off the GO tunnel under the rail corridor at Union Station. I know that the initial proposal for the GO...

Roads: Keep the Gardiner, fix it, or get rid of it? (2005-2014)

It's my hope that this will change. There are mayoral candidates who are bringing road pricing to the table as a serious way to generate revenue and fight congestion. However, as soon as the idea of tolling a currently "free" resource gets proposed, a populist mindset takes over and the voting...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

I highly doubt that Wynne would take a line from the Harris playbook by selling off public assets. I do see a corporate tax increase as a real possibility though. I also see a 1-point increase in the HST, business parking levy, and HOT lanes on 400-series highways being serious possibilities...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

To add to my previous post, nothing was likely to get constructed for another eight years. There's at least 4 years of study and lobbying the feds that needs to happen before any detailed construction plans happen. HSR won't be on the radar again until the next election cycle.
