If I can offer a tip (former sometimes-copywriter and current freelance writer), "declining to assist" is much too passive. You need to use a more active voice that frames the discussion around Ford willingly making bad decisions. Try "choosing not to assist". I'd be happy to edit if you'd like.

And unfortunately, I agree with Torquil on this: A friend of mine who had family that was deep into the drug trade in Edmonton in the 90s swears that this will be the case as well.

Torquil is a very public figure. He would have no reason to lie -- or rather, he has every reason not to. As an aside, I adore him.

Excellent post. I've long-assumed that he's a hardcore alcoholic, occasional/frequent recreational coke user, and "Sure, why the hell not" once in a while crak user when it's around.

It could be that he knows that more is forthcoming. If so, and if it's inevitable, the better strategy might be to let Ford hang himself with his own rope and continue to take the higher road of "constructive engagement" while he does.

Oh, I totally agree...but my frustration had less to do with him still being in office and more to do with how flippant he was with his comments. He begrudgingly, but entirely insincerely, conceded that, yeah, ok, maybe alcohol is a drug...if you say so, and he guesses that some people...
