Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Sorry for the sarcasm but it seemed like you were questioning whether we really needed to pay them anything. Anyway, for large projects EPCM fees (engineering, procurement, construction management) might be 25% of the supply and install cost - so for stations now over $100 M it's not entirely...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Ummm.... we pay engineers to do design work and "push paper" so that tunnels and buildings don't collapse and kill people. Is that good enough? Or would you prefer the trial and error method?

    Metrolinx/GO Georgetown Corridor Project

The article doesn't say - is this part of the Oakville sub?

Cell Phones and Wi-Fi in the Subway

Since it's a pre-qualification, no contract has been awarded. I assume it means they've narrowed down the bidders to those who fulfil the technical requirements. However I don't think results of prequals are ever usually released publicly.

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

That's an understatement. Spadina was officially "started" in early 2007 I think... and in a couple months we may see excavation begin for the drive shafts... that's more than 3 years. And I don't think the provincial government is in any hurry to fund more subway construction...

    MoveOntario 2020: GO Transit Electrification

There's an update (PDF) on the system-wide electrification study for the next Metrolinx board meeting. A JV of Delcan and Arup won the study award, with 10 sub-consultants - I'm hoping this isn't a case of too many cooks.

If the TTC works to rule I will be...

What does work-to-rule mean for the TTC? I've only heard the term used for teachers.

    TTC: Customer Service

Gary Webster's email to the TTC - from Transit Toronto: He sounds genuinely pissed off - hopefully he stays that way.

    Trip Planner online

After years and years of waiting, the TTC finally has a trip planner online in some form: http://www3.ttc.ca/Trip_planner/index.jsp?reset=true, although they say it's still in beta. At first glance, it seems underwhelming for the length of time it took to develop - no real time data, no way...

Sharon Yetman's Subway Safety Plan (Better barrier for subways 'an obsession')

The third rail is always located away from the platform. Not that I'm defending her concepts or drawings or anything like that.

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

I think that's a good idea, although not sure if it's worth $5 per departure. 27 m is one deep tunnel!

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The info boards (PDF) have been posted for the Niagara expansion. Nothing really new other than potential ridership numbers near the end - no surprise that Niagara Falls is very low, although Grimbsy being higher than St. Catharine's seems strange.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I doubt they're actually planning for all those stations... they must just be alternate locations. Two stations for Grimsby and two for Lincoln seems a bit much. There's 21 000 total population in Lincoln Township.

    Wi-Fi service underground

I think you mean cellular coverage - WiFi wouldn't really let you talk on the phone. They just did a pre-qual for this - so they should be tendering the actual contract soon hopefully.

Sharon Yetman's Subway Safety Plan (Better barrier for subways 'an obsession')

See my post a page or two back - your calculation for "203%" is quite wrong. Yet you keep citing it....

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

In actual news, tenders have been issued for the Sheppard West and Steeles West TBM launch box construction contracts... maybe we'll see real construction this year. http://www2.ttc.ca/html/frameset.htm

    Toronto Leslie Barns | ?m | ?s | TTC | SAI

The city has an environmental report available here (PDF). Also, just noticed the tender says the southWEST corner, while the site is actually the southEAST corner. Smoooooth.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Not sure how this fits with the TTC removing their funding for DRL studies a couple months ago but they've put out a contract for a DOWNTOWN RAPID TRANSIT EXPANSION STUDY . I can't imagine it's for anything else...
