    Restaurant Tipping Etiquette

Excellent service: 20% and up. Good: 18-20% Standard: 15% Bad service: no tip. I don't care if it's part of their income. My mum was a waitress and raised 4 kids single-handedly on tips 'cause she was an excellent waitress who worked for those tips (and today she will not give a tip if she...

Toronto St Regis Toronto Hotel and Residences | 281.93m | 58s | JFC Capital | Zeidler

I totally agree with Hume. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...of-a-deck?bn=1 It's ugly. It's not 'street-friendly'. It doesn't bring anything to the city (that spire is ridiculous and tacky). It looks like some random condo from 1982 with it's green and glass. It doesn't blend with...

    Back to Toronto

If you look very carefully you will see stairs against the wall. So, if you're walking down, make a right. It's called the HNR Tower. It used have HNR running up along the building that faces Dundas Sq as well. That lettering was taken down a few years ago.

    Back to Toronto

What a great space. Why let it deteriorate to that extent? It can totally be revamped and turned into ... well, I don't know — something.

    Back to Toronto

I love this building. The fire-escapes are fantastic as is the harsh retro design. I fear a tear down is looming.

    Hudson's Bay Company

You're at the low-end of average. Lol. Under 5'8" is considered short. I hate shopping in Canada. A) It's geared toward women and B) it's geared toward larger-sized men (by larger I mean m-xxl and 30-waist and above). It's mind-boggling when I see a pair of skinny jeans in a size 42! When a new...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Kresge's looked fantastic. I totally prefer the tree-lined median we have now, though. It adds some flair and panache to that stretch of Yonge.

    Toronto Massey Tower Condos | 206.95m | 60s | MOD Developments | Hariri Pontarini

I am very happy about this (as long as they don't screw it up or have a 'mysterious fire' or 'accident'). I was worried they would be torn down by greedy developers. Are these building heritage? I'm glad they're getting rid of that pointless parkette, too. 205 is gorgeous. Those Blogto photos...

    Distillery District

Exactly. We can all poo-poo chain stores, but that is where most people shop. And, a lot of this boutique, independent shops are way pricey! I would love to see more mom-and-pop shops, but you need to have some retail chains to draw people in. They're familiar. People know what they're getting...

    Church-Wellesley Village

Noooo! It's happened. Taken this morning 19 JAN 2012. I've always loved this building and the coach house behind. Next up will be a condo, for sure, that will totally change the neighbourhood (more noise complaints – count on it). It's the beginning of an end to an era.

Jarvis Collegiate 15 JAN 2012 4.30PM. Originally in colour, I changed it to b&W. The light is really sunlight.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Perhaps they can turn Holts into Selfridges (which they own)? Holts (if you look at it carefully) isn't that great aesthetically. The clothes, obviously, are expensive, and geared mostly to women. Selfridges is bigger, has WAY more selection than Holts and is a much better shopping experience...

I didn't know it was torn down! I'm glad I got to see it, though, years ago.

No one and no thing will ever convince me that tearing down SAM the Record Man and building that monstrosity Ryerson building is a good thing. It's ugly, takes retail space away from the area (please, the only retail they're going to put in there is a Starbucks) and serves no purpose unless you...
