2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Transit Plans

I'm no SmartTrack fan but those comments are just asinine. I mean, first of all, Rexdale and Jane-Finch will get good service from the TYSSE and the FWLRT when both of those open/come to fruition. Perhaps more importantly, there aren't exactly rail corridors through those areas for SmartTrack...

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Transit Plans

I find John Tory to be incredibly anti-constructive. The damn man is willing to promote a single glorified GO RER line for $8 billion, and yet when presented with a list of low-cost improvements to the TTC that could make a huge difference for Toronto, balks because of a lack of funding. In a...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Thank goodness that never happened - I think we in Ontario have learned quite the hard way the folly of operating any sort of infrastructure privately or for profit. The fares on the UPX will be high enough as is with Metrolinx running it. I get the feeling that there's a certain class of...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Salivating at the prospect! With all that let's just rip out the 401 because who needs it anymore? And then we can grow all sorts of organic produce on the land! Jokes aside, this is indeed the model that we should be striving for one day in this province. Probably not with the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It's interesting you mention the Northlander as I was just considering/reading into the effects of its cancellation. A huge part of the issue with why the Northlander wasn't cost effective was its low ridership, in spite of the fact that it provided possibly the most convenient route to a lot...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Let it happen! Forget VIA and the cuts-happy feds, let GO take over it all! Ontario ra ra ra! Ahem. I got a bit carried away. In seriousness though I would like to see, in the long term, progressively longer VIA routes be taken over by a longer-haul form of GO transit.

Toronto Union Subway Station: Second Platform and Concourse Improvements | ?m | ?s | TTC | IBI Group

Used the new platform today for the first time and I have to say I'm all around pleased with it! Some points in particular: 1. The tile and the overall look and feel of the station is great. It lends a modern, sleek feel to what used to be one of the most ghetto-feeling stations on the TTC...

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Transit Plans

That's the rub, really, with all of this subway nonsense. If you implement GO RER (I must note that I still prefer the term REX) then direct regional travel by transit becomes substantially faster and more comfortable, and the cash savings can be applied to expand a wider LRT network. Everyone...

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Transit Plans

I believe that's only because Tory's SmartTrack plan is presented as a very new and novel idea, branded in a kooky way and weird-looking on a map, and costing an obscenely large sum of money. That's a lot for Scarborough residents to take. It speaks volumes to the mentality of many Metro...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

I too don't really mind how the DMUs look. The olive green colouring is fairly similar to the new GO livery, and the units themselves are pretty snappy. Excited to see them testing soon too.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Looking good! I have to say that once ION gets up and running + GO RER (or the ever-nebulous HSR proposal) reaches the area, KW will be the place to emulate when it comes to transit in Ontario. Kudos.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I have to say that I'm not only quite pleased but also pretty excited at the possibility of this report getting implemented. The littlest things can make a big difference in updating a behemoth like the TTC to a more modern, rational standard of service. Stintz does worry me somewhat though...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

I sometimes think that we'll never get people on board with transit more than partially just because our agencies keep putting their feet in their mouths. Seriously? A fee on UPX users for parking? Just could've tacked a fee onto the fare for $2 and labelled it "general expense" or something...

    Ontario Liberals and Transit

I know a few people who are like that. That age, and lamenting how Soknacki doesn't have enough of a chance because he's great.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Of course the idea of Tory winning and dragging his feet on the DRL (along with cancelling SELRT and FWLRT) is a terrifying thought - we don't need another Mayor who plays into the right-wing obsessions of non-transit-riding Torontonians. "Surface subway" is ridiculous - it's basically just GO...

John Tory says we need subways to Pickering

Of course Pickering and Lakeshore East will be getting GO RER, along with all of the GO corridors. Tory is so out to lunch with SmartTrack. It's basically just taking credit for a provincial plan.

John Tory says we need subways to Pickering

Tory's fall can't come quickly enough. Too many people see him as a serious alternative to Ford - not enough realize how stupid he really can be, and as Mayor, would be. Also Pickering is technically scheduled to get an LRT...eventually...in the form of the upgrading of the DRT Pulse BRT from...

John Tory says we need subways to Pickering

As was said in another thread, we're just all waiting for his "publicly-funded religious schools" moment of this campaign. That is, the moment he Tories himself.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

"The subway relief line" is a pretty vague term - removing the "downtown" from DRL to de-politicize it makes me shake my head. What's confusing to me, truly, is that Chow has in the past talked of how the DRL is not a priority.

John Tory says we need subways to Pickering

I come from Pickering. We do not. Need. A subway. This guy needs to get out of politics once and for all.
