Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Looking at these pictures it's kind of hard to believe that an extremely active and busy heavy rail line ran through that area for so long without any kind of grade separation until now. With the residential density on Wallace and surrounding streets plus the hundreds of Ubisoft employees...

Also soon to come: Yonge North subway extension.

    Montréal Transit Developments

For all the faults of the CDPQi (and there were/are many), at least they got a full brand new rapid transit line in Montreal built relatively quickly. Contrast that with the Blue line extension, which has been talked about (and talked about and talked about) for decades before only now seeing...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

A true rapid transit connection between downtown Ottawa and Gatineau would involve a tunnel under the Ottawa River, which is not going to happen.

    Montréal Transit Developments

From what I recall (and it's been a few years since I lived in Montreal) the rail line along the shore runs at street level directly through the old port, a major tourist area with a ton of foot traffic. It would be difficult to grade separate it as an REM line without tunneling.

    Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Why can't VIA passengers just use the new York and Bay concourses to board? Never understood why they needed a separate passenger waiting area in the first place.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

It absolutely should. I've not heard of any offical plans to do so though.

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

Interesting that the renders appear to show the existing diesel GO trains. Won't all of the Smart Track integrated lines be electrified by the time the stations are operational?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I took the train to West Harbour today (early afternoon). Wouldn't say it was overly crowded, particularly after Burlington when a majority of the passengers disembarked, but there were a decent number of people waiting to board the return eastbound train at West Harbour, and even more when I...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

As far as I can tell this rendering (more like a cocktail napkin sketch) doesn't take into account the planned "hybrid" realignment of the Gardinder.

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Having an express airport rail station at Weston (where no other rapid/major transit lines intersect) never rally made sense to begin with, it was done soley as a way to get the local community onboard with the project. An UP station at Eglinton once the Crosstown is running will be far more...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Looking at the Front and Parliament intersection on Street View - is it known yet exactly where the station is planned to be constructed? I assume it'll be either the Budget car rental site or the vacant lot directly north of the data centre.

    VIA Rail

Glad Via is finally modernizing their on board payment system (always felt guilty making the attendant go through the whole carbon paper song and dance for a $1.50 can of Coke), but find it odd that Interac won't be accepted. Don't debit purchases usually cost the vendor less in transaction fees...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Indeed. My guess is that Via's poor quality signal is mainly due to the rural areas their trains pass through, conditions that the (mostly) GTA confined GO trains won't have to deal with.

    Toronto The Well | 174.03m | 46s | RioCan | Hariri Pontarini

The scale of this is staggering. It's reminding me a bit of the Hudson Yards development in NYC.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Some kind of increase to the Milton Line train service I assume. Not expecting much (maybe 1 extra train each way per weekday) seeing as how CP guards that line like Gollum grasping his ring.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

I agree with a lot of this, especially the unfortunate "build only when we have absolutely no choice" Canadian ethos. The thing is, we tried constructing an airport for the future once and got the white elephant of Mirabel. (Though with Trudeau/Dorval reaching capacity Montreal might soon regret...

Metrolinx: Bombardier Flexity Freedom & Alstom Citadis Spirit LRVs

As an aside, I've noticed that US transit systems tend to use male voices for automated stop announcements, whereas in Canada it's almost always female. Wonder why that is.
