Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

I think it's disingenuous for him to claim that he is supporting the project when the likeliest outcome of his complaining is that it will never happen at all. And he also keeps belittling the project -- the CBC quotes him saying that "for that amount of money they could build rapid transit on...

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

Has Metrolinx every cared about this? So what this comes down to is some councillors trying to shoot down a project because it doesn't directly benefit the residents of their ward.

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

Is there any evidence that you can have one without the other? Does it have to be built on Metrolinx's terms? Or is Metrolinx going to walk away from this and say, nevermind, we'll reserve the land for further track expansion?

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

And the complaints all undersell how important and valuable this project really is ("a two-kilometre walking trail" (Matlow), "nice to have, ... not a need to have" (Bradford))

Elliott makes another excellent point: And Bradford shows what a manipulative populist he is -- writing in the Toronto Sun to use this as a culture-war wedge issue against the mayor

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

I guess you have never been on the existing railpath (prior to its disruption by work on the Bloor GO station). This is a very busy corridor and its extension will be extremely valuable both for recreation and bike commuting

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

Yes, but will it? The typical Toronto outcome is that this will not get build any time soon. I for one would rather have a cost-inflated railpath than no railpath

Deferred for a decade, and then it will cost even more

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

If there was a Darwin award for bad business decisions, they would be a strong contender

Cycling: West Toronto Railpath (City of Toronto, Phase II Proposed)

Seems like a much better investment than spending 2 billions on the Gardiner

Is that connection to Sorauren Park included in the plans? I thought that was only talked about as a possible future expansion

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

That would make sense, but don't get your hopes up. Last I heard, the Catholic school property won't be integrated into the Loblaws development, so that rules out an underground connection from the Southeast corner. The owners of the Crossways complex on the Northeast side are opposed to a...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

Reading the comment about "600 transfers between the stations," makes it sound as if the connection will only be used by people transferring between GO and TTC. For residents of the Junction Triangle neighbourhood around Symington and Perth, this will become the preferred way to access the...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

And why does the project require work at subway track level? I thought it's a pedestrian connection through an existing underground parking lot

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

I would think that the motivation was actually to reduce ridership, that is, to make it less likely that rush hour trains would be overcrowded

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Which is unreliable and takes twice as long as the UP?
  17. F

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

No, GO train (and UP) should be integrated into a larger regional network that includes the TTC. That is why we have fare integration, and why the pedestrian connection is being built between Dundas West and Bloor Station. We should encourage airport travellers to use this transfer rather than...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

The question is, do you want a transit NETWORK, or do you want to pretend that the point of transit is only to move people to and from Union Station?

Good point! It's also hard to square with the fact that the pedestrian tunnel is being built to connect to the Dundas West subway
