    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

You're right that it's not that big of a deal to short turn prior to the CNE loop. I think I was more just astonished by the shear level of construction going on on streetcar lines. It's going to be confusing...the 506 replacement also seems to have a rather complicated and changing set of...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

They're going to have to do a little more public education to get users to tap in a fare-paid area. I was kind of surprised how little info was done on the Presto streetcar launch. I still occasionally get people asking me how it works on streetcars.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Actually, I was inspired by this NYT article: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/04/27/1-minute-of-all-out-exercise-may-equal-45-minutes-of-moderate-exertion/?_r=0 I've been trying to add a couple intense short intervals to my cycling commute. Basically going all out on the one moderate hill. I...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Nice! I wrote to the TTC a while back urging them to make the 192 one of the first buses they convert. Coming back from a trip, it's a pain to have to think about searching for tokens. It's easy to assure consistency since it's a dedicated sub-fleet. Also useful in the "competition" with the...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

So I'm kind of amazed at the sheer volume of streetcar mess in the downtown this summer: The 501 Queen is diverting from May to October from Shaw to Spadina The 506 has a whole assortment of complicated replacements and bus diversions form June to September. The 512 is replaced with buses from...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Rather impressed with how quickly streetcars are communicating to Presto. My morning ride was on the ride within an hour of taking it. I wonder if they're syncing every time they enter a terminal?

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Exactly. Looking forward to seeing the numbers on Bloor!

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

This is definitely bit worrisome. I recall reading that the warranty was going to run out shortly.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Well, there is a legitimate question for those of us that don't build streetcars. It's obvious that trolley poles can easily change with the height of the wire. How does that work with pantographs? Do they automatically raise and lower as necessary?

TTC: Cherry Street reconstruction and streetcar trackage (City of Toronto/TTC, U/C)

That's the bizarre thing with the TTC. When they re-design a roadway and put the streetcar in its own ROW, it somehow slows down. Look at Spadina and Harbourfront. Too many crossings, lights too long, ineffective TSP, too many stops, etc.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I think at this point that does legitimately mean free rides if the Presto readers are out of service. TTC says that all streetcars and essentially connecting subway stations have Presto readers now. If I'm planning a trip that uses Presto-accessible stations, I shouldn't have to carry a...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I love the German: "Nicht in rotierende Teile greifen" which basically translates as: "Don't grab the rotating parts" Just in case the shower of sparks isn't clear enough.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Aha, because this road without bike infrastructure doesn't have many cyclists, then of course, if we put infrastructure on it, it also won't have cyclists. You know, simple logic ;) I find my most dangerous moments crossing are crossing at a traffic light with a walk signal. Cars turning...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I sure hope so! They have yet to achieve even 2 streetcars per month with any regularity, so this is still a ramp-up, although half of the planned ramp up. I am glad to see Bombardier finally taking a serious set of concrete steps to address this issue. Adding a new manufacturing line...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

This is exactly what I don't understand. If I were facing this big of a screw-up, I would start throwing whatever resources/cash/people were needed at it. At some point it's better to give up a profit on one order or take a small loss rather than take that much damage to your reputation. I...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

You know, I was actually optimistic. I thought maybe they'd finally gotten their ducks in a row and were ready to start churning out streetcars...it wasn't an outlandish number to promise either. I'm curious what the Magic 8 ball of excuses will say this time. They've already blamed welding...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Yeah, this is the kind of thing that is just unions being absurd. TTC drivers are driving large hunks of metal (streetcars and buses) filled with large numbers of passengers without seatbelts. There really has to be a zero tolerance policy with testing and enforcement for alcohol and drugs...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

I flew out of T3 for the first time a month ago. It is quite unappealing. I have a rather long lists of airports I prefer to it.

Right, in their boosted, relativistic reference frame, they're doing just fine. It's our own fault for the Lorenz delay here in Toronto.
