    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The other difference is that a day pass on the weekend is valid for 2 adults and 4 "youths" 19 and under or 1 adult and 5 "youths" 19 and under. That's rather tricky to figure out how to program into Presto...not really sure how that would ever work. I certainly have enough sympathy for any 1...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I've noticed this is incredibly awkward if you're exiting towards Liberty Village. You have to go back inside the station a bit to tap off and then continue on your way. There's no Presto reader en route to the exit from the train. Very inconvenient.

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Well this is a signal that they at least recognize there's a problem. It's still too subtle. Think about the Chinese tour groups wandering aimlessly or the local teenager catching pokemon....these people aren't going to notice this. Reminds me a little bit of the "look right" signs in London...

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

So I'm curious if the accident stats for collisions here have gotten any better. I can't find anything that summarizes the data. I've biked through here several times over the past few weekends. Just a few observations: There are still a lot of cars trying to turn onto the streetcar tracks...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I'm a little confused by all the timing as well. It would have made sense to do College & Bathurst, the Lansdowne connection for the 506, and the streetscaping on College all simultaneously. That would have minimized the disruption. I'm also kind of shocked that it takes this long and...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

the Honday Indy..that must be why it sounds like a distant hive of bees in my office right now. I'm all the way near College & Spadina in a tall building...that must be what I'm hearing.

Apparently one driver already thought of that: opening the side doors while driving over the Don Valley. Refreshing and exhilarating ;)

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I noticed a new streetcar wrap for the Flexity, a full size wrap with a beer ad for Budweiser or Bud Light or something like that. Don't get me wrong, I like my drink, but it just seems a bit incongruous for a city agency to promote drinking on the outside of a transit vehicle. Especially with...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

With Presto though, you just tap your car as you enter. Spadina is in theory 100% flexity now, so shouldn't be a problem.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

So the current TTC streetcar diversion strategies are not working well. I was very confused yesterday trying to get a 505 Dundas West streetcar at Dundas and Spadina to find four 506 east Main Street streetcars heading west on Dundas. They then turned north on Spadina and loop back on College...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Most of the day there are not actually 4 lanes of car traffic either on College. There are two lanes of car/streetcar traffic and two lanes of parking. The better question is whether two full lanes of parking is really the best use of the limited space on College Street. IMHO, I'd much rather...

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

That's just bad street design. It's an intrinsically dangerous situation for buses to need to pull over to the curb in a cycle track. At a minimum, one should adopt more the model on Roncesvalles with raised platforms. Then buses can load/unload without needing to pull into the cycle track...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

You know they just don't think about that kind of thing. Right now they're doing streetscape improvements on College between Shaw and Havelock...

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Now I do know there are some cyclists that will blow through any signal, and they aggravate me to no end. I do wonder here, is the incredibly unconventional intersection design enhances the problem. The design is all a bit too subtle. Think of a typical intersection for vehicles. There's a...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

This summer is getting a bit tough for cyclists and drivers in Toronto. So much construction. Richmond is almost shut down. In addition to College being shut down at Bathurst, it appears to be one lane in each direction all the way out to Dufferin. Queen has sewer construction. Half the...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Well, I was biking with a partner, so we just biked side-by-side on Wilson to make sure to take up the full lane. With 3 lanes and light traffic on a weekend, I didn't feel bad taking up the full lane to bike defensively. The TTC buses were actually the worst offenders in encroaching on our...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Finally did the trail today! Thanks for the inspiration. I biked up the Humber from Old Mill. It seems the trail is closed under the 401 which leads to a rather annoying detour, including a busy stretch on Wilson. From there we decided to pop over to the Finch Hydro corridor. We just biked...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

It still seems no one can figure out how to get close to their operating cost. Has anyone seen any breakdowns of this anywhere?

    Toronto Bike Share

I think this must actually make Bixi rather rich. I often see bikes pretty far away from the closest station. I just presume they're tourists that don't understand how the fee structure works and how much it costs if the trip is over 30 minutes.
