    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Walking past a polling location at approximately 7:55 pm (as I mentioned in an earlier post, I had already voted at an advanced poll) and seeing a guy storming out yelling about not being allowed to vote -- I would assume showing up a few minutes before polls close with no valid identification...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

I'm not sure why something that obvious should need to be explained, but yes, the major streets are the ones that go across things like rail corridors, river valleys, and creek ravines. Most side/residential streets don't, making the notion of putting bike lanes there quite silly.

Other than maybe hearing live sports, news and traffic reports while in their car, I have trouble thinking of how broadcast AM/FM radio is of much use to anyone today. I'm a little surprised to find out music radio stations still exist, with all the other ways we have to listen to music of our...

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

I recently went to Fairview Mall for the first time in many years. It was busy in general (with a line-up to get into the T&T) including the food court, and an unbelievably large mob around the McD's and people getting annoyed at the long wait. If some of them are doing poorly, I assume it must...

Broadcast radio, the AM band in particular, may be on its last legs, with mentions of intentions to shut down transmitter sites and sell the real estate they occupy. Of course they could continue keeping the audio available though their websites. And Rogers and Bell have already had their...

    Gondolas as Urban Transit

From what I can see, it looks like 1997 was the last year there was something resembling a full summer season of shows, then only sporadic use at best in the last 25 years. I would assume whoever the promoter had been up until 1997 likely let their contract expire, and no one replaced them. When...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

It might be that more people have learned about it, and now understand that they can get it done sooner and don't have to wait for the crowds on election day. It doesn't require a reason or excuse. For the last several elections (at all levels) I've gone on the first day of advanced voting and...

Damn squirrels. Toyota may have lost at Le Mans because of a squirrel

    Toronto Wildlife

Black-crowned Night Herons apparently are known for hiding during the day and emerging at dusk, but I guess the daylight hours are so long in June that this one was still out fishing this morning in the north duck pond in High Park. Edit: And they also need more food in breeding season. Nest...

Was Amazon the unnamed mystery buyer he's been saying he had lined up, or did they give up some time ago and it's been someone else more recently? At least we know now that it will be sold soon, and presumably we'll find out what the new owner has planned in the next few months.

    Exhibition Place

Regarding my preceding posts about the IndyCar race, I have read that the likely solution could be that the pit lane will not be made longer, but will instead be made wider to allow cars to have pit stops on both sides of it. That type of set-up is now being used in Detroit (where their race has...

"2023 Advance Sale Passes available now" I don't remember them selling tickets this early in other years, though I might not have noticed. Also, the website doesn't seem to have been updated yet with any info regarding 2023 attractions, Bandshell concerts, etc.

I seem to recall the site of that building across the road being a big hole in the ground with water and mud at the bottom of it for a long time before it got going again...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

This is getting a little off-topic and before I was old enough to know about it, but I recall my high school history teacher saying that the Conservative-leaning riding (York-Simcoe) may have unwittingly elected a Liberal, John Roberts, in the 1968 federal election. John Robarts was then the...

    Feeding wildlife prohibited April 2023

Not necessarily related to people intentionally feeding them, but I had not heard of this before today. https://www.insauga.com/1000-nuisance-geese-in-mississauga-and-oakville-will-soon-be-shipped-out-of-town/ Could something like this be done with pigeons? I would think pigeons (and FWIW...

https://www.insauga.com/miway-buses-in-mississauga-now-have-seats-that-are-unsafe-to-sit-in/ Have they ever offered an attempt to explain this complete nonsense? What could it possibly be? What is the supposed "protection" that is missing from these seats? Did some childlike mind think of...

    Toronto Ontario Place | ?m | ?s | Infrastructure ON

Cable cars from Ontario Place to the Exhibition GO/TTC station? With gondolas, like the Alpine Way? I suppose something connecting those places (and maybe to the King-Liberty GO station) would seem like a reasonable suggestion, although I have no idea how expensive or practical it would be...
