    Downtown Markham

If this goes through (it's still just a proposal that requires provincial approval) and the city green-lights the plans for some of the other developments in Downtown Markham East (e.g., this one that you know about already), this area is going to have a LOT of people by 2020.

    Downtown Markham

Definitely fluid. Anything that hasn't been announced is imagineereing. There are of course quadrants zoned for specific (or mixed) use, but even those may be subject to some flux. I'm pretty sure I saw an interview within the last couple of years with one of the Remington guys in which it was...

    Downtown Markham

I saw a couple of kids doing the same thing on the CNE grounds (not during the Ex) a few years ago. Funny stuff.

The carousel will be in a glass-enclosed building, so it won't be directly exposed to rain and snow. There's supposed to be some kind of water feature just to the West of the carousel building. I'm thinking it might be along the lines of what you see on Sherbourne Street down by the water, but...

My wife quite likes it, but I'm with you. I read that Jane's Carousel in Brooklyn was what sparked this idea. That is perhaps an impossibly high standard to use as a comparison (given that it was a 25 year labour of love for the builders), but this is a letdown for me. At this point I'm just...

Just discovered that a couple videos of the carousel planned for the NW corner of Enterprise and Birchmount were posted to the artist's website last spring. http://www.patrickamiot.com/carrousel/

River Park & Uptown Market (Uptown Markham Phase 1, Times Group, multiple up to 20s, Kirkor) COMPLETE

In the past that was definitely true, and UTM is a different developer and it seems that's still their primary focus. But I've noticed that in 2014 the number of non-Chinese in DTM has spiked dramatically. Pretty much all ethnicities are represented, though Caucasians make up the bulk of it...

The Caplansky truck is coming? I know what I'm doing for dinner tomorrow!

    Downtown Markham

re: top-right corner I was only referring to the Remington holdings (ie: "Downtown Markham"). So just the top-right corner of the master plan you posted, where you see orange buildings + adjacent soccer fields. You're right about the top-right corner of Markham Centre as a whole, but that's a...

    Downtown Markham

The Markham Centre map is old (2008), and was likely created before any of the facilities were announced.

    Downtown Markham

I wonder if a university campus changes the zoning equation/ratios a bit. The "arena area" seems big enough for a campus of 5,000 students. But the long-term plans suggest this could grow to 20,000, to which you'd presumably have to factor in an additional 1,500-2,000 staff and faculty. I don't...

    Downtown Markham

The article linked to by Kafar notes the site being "adjacent" to the Pam Am Centre, while another mentions the Hwy 7 / Warden intersection, and another still suggests that multiple sites within Markham Centre were shown, on a mix of land owned by the public and private sector. It seems to me...

    awesome, well deserved! :)

    Markham GTA Centre | ?m | ?s | GTA S. and E. | BBB

I think there are things going on behind the scenes with the developers. There's a January 2010 PDF on the Markham website that clearly shows "Markham Live" on the East side of the Go tracks. Fast forward two years, and now it's on the West side, on a different developer's land. In addition to...

Yes, the developers use this phrase to sell their projects. It's 100% marketing.

That casino will be very hotly contested. If the Toronto councillors can reach an agreement on the harbourfront, there is no way it winds up in Markham. I'd be surprised if Markham is #4 on the list.
