    Yorkdale Shopping Centre

Trying to find out why everyone is saying that it's new, as I have photos of TWG at Yorkdale from July 2022. Maybe whomever put the news out made it seem like they discovered that it was new, when really a few months old. I'm attaching two photos from the same trip - Allbirds construction...

    Bed, Bath & Beyond

With dozens of locations across Canada set to be vacated, the question turns to which brands can actually take advantage of this opportunity. We saw BBB leave the aura and IKEA came in, but which brands could take over large-format retail spaces...

The NBA Courtside Restaurant is coming to 15 Queens Quay East, being run by the Urban Dining Group. This will be a good addition to the neighbourhood that's starting to see its future come into realization from years of living through concept art and renderings...

It'll be exciting to see a Farm Boy within 500 metres of another Farm Boy;) This leads to thinking that the Loblaws at the corner will be eventually redeveloped. Retail Insider broke the original story last June, which just shows how long things can take with construction in Toronto...

WLKN has shuttered its pop-up location on the 2nd level, doors down from the reported closure of Shoo by Steve Madden. RI covered the opening back in July. We'll see if the brand will transition to a permanent location soon...

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

Noticed that when Healthy Butcher left Queen West before Christmas, Rowe Farms took the opportunity to open its 7th location in the chain. I can see FCM shuttering due to the competition in the area and the changing demographics of the grab & go on Bay Street. Farm Boy & Metro at College Park...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Lids at 10 Dundas (The Tenor) has closed. This location was always an after-thought compared to the larger store at CF TEC. They also rarely had a good selection of stock, which probably didn't help sales. Little fun fact - Little Canada next door (previously GoodLife Gym) was in the running...

Blue Jays shop on Level one (next to Journeys) closed on Monday. I was there before they put up the construction hoarding, but sad news. They opened this store back in 2014: Here's the opening article from SLD: https://www.sld.com/press/new-blue-jays-shop-flagship-store-opens-in-the-eaton-centre/

Eddie Bauer is closing at CF TEC and other malls. Really dated design, so not shocking. https://retail-insider.com/bulletin/2023/01/eddie-bauer-to-shutter-multiple-stores-in-toronto-area/
