    Downtown Mississauga Master Plan

There certainly are a lot of variations from slide to slide. Is this due to some flexibility in the future plans; an issue of multiple conceptual artists; or were the slides compiled from different teams shortly before the presentation without time to standardize the plans?

Interesting, I didn't notice the changes to Walmart when I first looked at the file. In some renderings, it is separated by a road; in others it disappears; and in a couple it is still attached to the mall. Does anyone know if this is simply due to uncertainty over Walmart's future status or is...

Pardon my ignorance but I'm not sure I understand the meaning of these two statements.

The JUNOs return to Toronto in 2011

Back when the Junos were held mostly in Toronto, with the occasional jaunt to Hamilton (and a couple of times to Vancouver, IIRC), the criticism was that it was getting stale and that Toronto wasn't embracing the event any more. It was the decision to move the Junos around the country and create...

    Toronto as #2

Save a big thank you for Pearson, too. He was PM when Canada changed to a colour-blind immigration policy.

    Not a 24 Hour City

Except the subways and commuter rail lines which all shut down around midnight. Many a politician has pushed for 24 hour service on key lines and many a politician has been threatened and occasionally beaten for it. This might have something to do with the fact that the vast majority of the...

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

I think the more likely answer is that the vast majority of condo dwellers in the MCC have a car and are likely to do their heavy duty shopping at one of the many existing places within a 5-10 minute drive. I assume the stores going into one or more of the new condos will be the urban format and...

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

While they are more expensive then a regular grocery store they also carry a lot of products and brands that you won't find in the others. The quality of their prepared foods is excellent, too and I very much like their cafe. With so many other grocery stores just outside of the MCC I guess...

First, very nice find. Two, woo hoo! Nailed it. (I realize I was but one of many but, never-the-less..)

Most "Walkable" Mall in the GTA

Considering the number of large malls that are much closer to 905'ers in their own regions, those are mostly 416'ers playing on the Eaton Centre escalators.

I think parking would be a problem at Mississauga Valley (unless they shut down the activities at the community centre during the three days) but it would be an attractive location.

I suspect that moving the Canada Day celebrations to the surrounding area would be far less problematic than Ribfest since it's one day and most of the shut downs would only be in effect on a statutory holiday. Ribfest might be more of an issue since it is three days (or was it four this past...

The city is still advertising a Canada Day celebration and the Ribfest next summer. Will these events be moved next year while the work between City Hall and the Library continues or will they be far enough along that the area can be used temporarily? I would assume the former.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

I suspect that the following chains would not move in to the SQ1 location because they already have outlets fairly close the MCC. This would be especially important for those chains that are franchised (e.g. No Frills). - Loblaw (Dundas & Mavis...fairly close by the standards of their chain)...

Is that 3620? Realstar has the contract to run that one (as well as the one just to the South, IIRC) but the owners of the building are a pension plan and a law firm. I believe the one SE of 3620 (i.e. across the road and closer to Obelisk) is also a rental.

    Downtown Mississauga Master Plan

The Kaneff building at the SE corner Burnhamthorpe and Hurontario is a condo, as is the one the furthest south of the three along Hurontario. The middle one is a rental but it has not been owned by Kaneff for some time. I believe the building is owned by a pension plan and a legal firm. The...
